Recapish
Gabriel
Ynoa finally got a taste of real PCL baseball Monday night against Nashville,
as the Sounds got to him for 11 hits over his 6 innings. Ynoa limited the
damage to just 4 runs, but that was enough for a red-hot Nashville team and
their starter Dillon Overton.
The
Sounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st thanks to Renato Nunez’s
8th homerun of the year. It was the third homerun that Ynoa has
allowed this season, and it came off a hanging slider. Ynoa allowed an RBI
double to Ryon Healy in the 4th inning, and the three runs allowed
to that point matched his season high.
Offensively,
the 51s not named Brandon Nimmo struggled against Overton. Nimmo had a hit in
each of his first 4 plate appearances, which matched the rest of the lineups
hit total through 8 innings. He hit a well-struck single up the middle in his
first AB. He led off the 4th inning with a triple lined over the
center fieler’s head and then scored on a sac fly from T.J. Rivera – as Russ
Langer puts it, if there’s a 51s game with Rivera in it, he’s going to get an
RBI! Nimmo then lined a double into the left center field gap leading off the 6th
inning, though the 51s couldn’t get him home. He had a chance for the cycle in
the 8th, but the tall wall in RF got in the way of his line drive,
so he settled for a second double. One more positive note on Nimmo’s first
three hits: Dillon Overton is a lefty.
His
8th inning double sparked a three-run rally that had Las Vegas threatening
a comeback. The fans really got into for the first time all night, and Niuman
Romero delivered an RBI single in the frame. Marc Krauss was called on to pinch
hit for Kyle Johnson in the 8th and delivered a sac fly to make this
a 5-4 game.
However,
all that momentum was drained out of the park in the top of the 9th when
Matt Olson launched a two run blast to right center field that extended
Nashville’s lead to 7-4.
Check
out a full iscorecast pitch log from this game below – the velocities and pitch
types consistently match the calls made by Russ Langer. These two teams go back
at it Tuesday night starting at 10:05 PM, with Sean Gilmartin (4-1, 2.48 ERA)
scheduled to pitch for the 51s.
