Recapish
The
Binghamton Mets jumped ahead early and never looked back against Portland
Sunday afternoon, riding a very nice start from Casey Delgado to victory. The
B-Mets nearly had a hit party, and the only batter who didn’t reach via a hit
(Victor Cruzado) still reached base via a walk.
Delgado
didn’t induce a swinging strike until he picked up his first strikeout in the 5th
inning, but he had no problem recording outs without those. He worked around a
double in both the 2nd and 3rd innings and he got help
from his left fielder to end the 4th. With Cole Sturgeon on 2B and
two outs, Rainel Rosario singled through the left side of the infield and the
Sea Dogs decided to test Cruzado. That was a bad choice though, as Cruzado
threw a one-hopper right to home plate that got there in time for the out.
Portland finally broke through after they reached base on an E4 to start the 6th,
but Delgado limited the damage to just 1 run.
The
B-Mets pen would face just one over the minimum during the final 3 innings to
close out the game. I break down the scoring details with highlights below, so
enjoy! The B-Mets are off Monday before returning home for a series with Altoona
that starts Tuesday night. Phillip Evans had to leave the game after running from 2B to 3B in the first inning. There were no replays or updates, but hopefully it's nothing serious, especially since Evans has been hot at the plate in May (1.000 OPS in 23 PA).
Scoring Highlights
Seven
batters reached safely for Binghamton in the 1st inning as they
jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Kyle Johnson led the game off with a single through
the left side. Dominic Smith singled him home three batters, and the B-Mets
never looked back. Xorge Carrillo, Phillip Evans, and Maikis De La Cruz added
RBI singles in the frame.
Matt
Oberste picked up a pair of singles over the first 5 innings.
Maikis
led off the 6th inning with a solo blast to RF. Johnson and Oberste
added singles in the frame, and Carrillo made it 8-0 with an RBI double.
Smith’s
second hit came in the 8th inning.
Defensive Highlights
Victor
Cruzado added another outfield assist to his total when he threw Cole Sturgeon
out at home to end the 4th. Dominic Smith did a nice job to come off the bag for the throw to complete the double play.
