Recapish
The
Binghamton Mets fell back under .500 Tuesday afternoon after taking a 9-0
beating from Reading. It was a familiar story for the B-Mets, as they could get
runners on and in scoring position throughout the game, but they just couldn’t
pick up the big hit. It wasn’t just the bottom of the lineup struggling in
those spots either, as three potential Binghamton rallies were killed on double
play’s hit into by their 3-4 hitters.
With
Rainy Lara unable to go Tuesday, the B-Mets called Casey Delgado up from St.
Lucie for at least this one start. Delgado doesn’t blow batters away with his
heat, but his fastball and secondaries flashed some nice movement, and he was
effective down in the zone. Unfortunately, he was up in the zone a little too often,
which led to a Reading singles fest.
Delgado
allowed a single to the first 5 batters of the 2nd inning, but
Reading managed just 1 run against him in the frame. The first baserunner was
erased on a caught stealing, and then Delgado stranded the bases loaded – he
picked up a huge strikeout for the second out right after loading them up.
After a nice effort over the first
3 innings, the 4th was a clunker for Delgado. He allowed a pair of
doubles among 5 more Reading hits. B-Mets manager Pedro Lopez thought he pitched into some bad luck, but was hurt by a few pitches left up.
Logan Taylor was first out of the
pen and he was great over his 2 innings of work, finishing with 5 strikeouts. The
Fightin Phil’s added on against both Kelly Secrest in the 7th and
Mike Hepple in the 8th, but by then the game was too far out of reach
anyway.
This series wraps up Wednesday
morning at 11:35 AM, with Mickey Jannis scheduled to pitch for the B-Mets.
Scoring Highlights
There
were no runs scored for Binghamton, but here are the Dom Smith doubles, as well
as the single from Phillip Evans. Also shown are Xorge Carrillo throwing a runner out and Casey Delgado's single.
