Recapish
The
B-Mets were locked in a pitcher’s duel with Altoona Wednesday night when Andrew
Barbosa had to leave after 2 pitches in the 4th inning. Kelly
Secrest took over for Barbosa and was very effective for 2 innings, but the
Curve would get to him in the 6th to blow this game open.
Barbosa
allowed a 1st inning run and worked around trouble in the 3rd
before leaving. He had also issued 3 walks, which was one shy of his season
high, so he wasn’t at his sharpest. After falling behind 1-1 on the first
batter of the 4th inning, Barbosa stepped off the mound and started
to stretch. The B-Mets trainer rushed out, felt around Barbosa’s left
arm, and then Barbosa walked off the mound – pretty much the worst sequence a
pitcher can go through. UPDATE: Apparently it was a lat strain, so that's better than arm injury.
Back
to the game, a 6th inning error from L.J. Mazzilli opened the door
for the Curve’s big rally. The B-Mets also issued a pair of walks and Secrest
uncorked a wild pitch in the frame, so it’s not like they were helping
themselves.
Offensively,
the B-Mets could use a spark. They’ve moved to the middle of the pack in most
EL offense rankings, but few batters have been consistent to this point. As
usual, you can check out any highlights from this game below.
The
B-Mets will look to avoid a sweep as this series wraps up Thursday night at
6:35 PM. Tyler Pill (3-3, 4.50 ERA) is scheduled to pitch for Binghamton coming
off a 7-inning
complete game win over Portland.
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Dominic
Smith took a one out walk in the 4th inning, went to 3B on Xorge
Carrillo’s single, and then scored on a sac fly from Victor Cruzado.
Moved
up to the 2-slot in the order, Maikis De La Cruz picked up a pair of singles
that went nowhere in this game. Jared King had singled to leadoff the 8th,
but Derrik Gibson would ground into a double play before Maikis’ second hit.
MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights
The
Matt Oberste at 3B experience continues, and I aim to have full coverage of it.
Oberste’s bat has always been interesting, but he has a much brighter future if
he can even just handle third base. He’s a little older for a first-time
Double-A player, but he’s currently 15th in the EL in wRC+, and I
think there’s more pop in his bat than the 20 career homers to date suggests.
