Recapish
The
Fireflies lost another tight battle with the Charleston River Dogs Sunday
evening at the Joe, dropping the finale 4-3 to fall one game under .500. Cola
starter Chase Ingram was a little wild in the 5th, which opened the
door for a 3-run River Dogs rally that was the game decider. Patrick Mazeika
stayed hot at the plate, picking up a pair of singles and driving in the first
two Columbia runs.
Ingram
induced a high number of swinging strikes using mostly his heater and curve
against Charleston Sunday, but walks have now been an issue in 3 of his last 4
starts. Both walks issued in the 5th inning came around to score,
and that was the deciding inning. The Dogs scored their first run of the game
in the 2nd, when Jhalan Jackson launched a fastball down the middle
to LF.
Craig
Missigman and Alex Palsha were very strong out of the Fireflies pen over the
final 3 innings, allowing 0 baserunners while striking out 3. Unfortunately,
the Cola bats couldn’t pick up the big hit late. The one run they scored in the
8th came without the benefit of a hit, and then Ivan Wilson was
thrown out at 2B trying to be aggressive on a single in the 9th.
I
break down the scoring details with highlights below and have included a full
iscore log at the bottom, so enjoy! The Fireflies travelled home for a 3-game
series with Augusta that begins Monday night. P.J. Conlon (6-0, 1.05 ERA) is
scheduled to make the 7:05 PM start for Columbia, and he’ll be looking to pick
u where he left off against
Rome last week.
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Patrick
Mazeika and Milton Ramos started the 2nd inning with back-to-back
singles, but Columbia couldn’t get either in.
Tyler
Moore sparked the Fireflies 3rd inning rally with a single into CF.
Vinny Siena drew a walk two batters later, and they were both advanced into
scoring position on a fielder’s choice groundout off the bat of J.C. Rodriguez.
Mazeika then came through with a two run single to give Cola a 2-1 lead.
The
Fireflies got one run back in the 8th without the benefit of a hit.
J.C. walked, went to 2B when Mazeika was hit by a pitch, to 3B on a wild pitch,
and then scored on a Ramos groundout.
Ivan
Wilson was robbed of extra bases in the 7th inning, and then barely
thrown out trying to extend this 9th inning single into a double.
MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights
J.C.
Rodriguez used his strong arm to get Thairo Estrada at 1B by a hair, though the
crowd did not agree with the call. Milton Ramos made the throw from the seat of his pants for the out at 2B.
