Recapish
The
Las Vegas 51s slipped back under .500 with a loss in their opener with
Sacramento Friday night. Duane Below kept the River Cats off the board over the
first 4 innings, but Sacramento then put up a 5-spot in the 5th – done entirely with two outs – thanks mostly
to a two run triple and two run homerun.
Below
faced trouble in every inning, but he picked up a lot of K’s and pop outs to
keep Sacramento off the board over the first 4 innings. Meanwhile, the 51s were
barely able to make contact against Chris Stratton over their first 5 trips to
the plate. T.J. Rivera’s 4th inning single was the only hit Las
Vegas had when the River Cats broke this game open. Dario Alvarez was great
over the next two frames, but the 51s bats woke up too late for a comeback in
this game.
I break down the 51s scoring with the few highlights below, so enjoy! This series continues Saturday night at 10:05 PM,
with Gabriel Ynoa (2-0, 2.05 ERA) scheduled to pitch for Las Vegas.
Scoring Highlights
Marc
Krauss led off the 6th with a solo blast to RF, his 4th
homerun of the year.
The
first two Las Vegas batters of the 9th inning would reach safely:
Johnny Monell singled and Travis Taijeron followed with a walk. Gavin Cecchini
brought them both home with an RBI double to keep his hitting streak alive.
Dilson
Herrera added a single in the game.
Defensive Highlights
Gavin Cecchini made two fielding
errors in this game, but his fielding at SS has not been the problem, it’s his
throwing that’s given scouts concerns. The first error was on a grounder that
most players will field 999 times out of 1,000, but it just popped out of
Cecchini’s glove this time. He
showed off a good arm in the 7th, although he did do his hop step
thing again.
