Recapish
Matt
Oberste continued his tear at the plate with his best night of the year, but
the rest of the B-Mets lineup stayed quiet for most of Thursday night Porltand.
The B-Mets fell behind early after another rough 1st inning from
Robert Gsellman, and Portland was able to double their lead with Logan Taylor
on the mound for the 6th and 7th innings.
Gsellman
has had a few rough 1st innings so far this year, but he’s generally
figured things out by the 2nd or 3rd innings of his
start, which is a good sign that he can adjust based on what he’s got that day.
Nate Freiman connected for a two run double against him in the 1st
inning, but Gsellman really settled in after that. He’d retire 10 of the next
11 Portland batters, with all 5 of his K’s during that stretch. He left
trailing 2-0 after 5, which was enough for the L in this game.
I
break down the offensive details with highlights below, so enjoy! This series
continues Friday evening with a pair of games scheduled between these two
teams. Rainy Lara and Andrew Barbosa are the expected starters for Binghamton.
Scoring Highlights
L.J.
Mazzilli hit a one out single in the 3rd inning but never budged.
The
B-Mets tried to put together a two out rally in the 4th inning, but
came up one hit short. Dominic Smith hit a dribbler up the middle for a single,
and then Matt Oberste doubled him to 3B.
Oberste
and Victor Cruzado hit back-to-back singles in the 7th inning, but
the B-Mets stranded runners at the corners in the inning.
Oberste
hit a two run homerun in the 9th inning to help the B-Mets avoid a
sweep. Colton Plaia added a single in the inning.
