Recapish
Tyler
Pill continued his string of strong starts with a quality start against Altoona
Thursday night, and the B-Mets offense had just enough in them to avoid a sweep
against the Curve. The game came down to a pair of B-Mets runs scored on a wild
pitch and E2 in the same play during the 7th.
The
B-Mets jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning but Altoona was
quick to get that run back in the 2nd. Anderson Feliz took Pill deep
to RF, and the game would stay tied until the 6th.
Pirates
#2 prospect Austin Meadows led off the 6th with a booming triple hit
to dead center field. He’d come around to give the Curve their first lead on
Reese McGuire’s third double of the year.
Kyle
Johnson doubled and scored to tie the game in the bottom of the 6th,
but Altoona jumped right back ahead against the B-Mets pen in the 7th.
Luis Mateo issued a walk and HBP in the frame, and David Roseboom had to come
to finish it.
After
his team took a 5-3 lead bottom 7, Manager Pedro Lopez went to one of the
B-Mets most reliable relievers for the final 2 innings. Beck Wheeler ran into
some 9th inning trouble, but he’d recover in time to protect the
lead, striking out Austin Meadows and Jose Osuna to finish the game.
The
B-Mets hit the road after this game, with their buses headed for Akron where
they open a 3-game set. Rainy Lara (2-4, 5.28 ERA) is expected to make the
start for Binghamton Friday night, with a scheduled game time of 6:35 PM.
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Derrik
Gibson led off the bottom of the 1st with a double to RF and then
scored on a Matt Oberste sac fly.
Xorge
Carrillo’s big day started with what was ruled a ground-rule double in the 2nd
inning.
Kyle
Johnson led off the 6th inning with a double lined into LF and then
came around to score on Dominic Smith’s RBI single.
A
one out single from Xorge in the 7th sparked the game-winning rally
for Binghamton. Victor Cruzado kept the inning going with a two out, pinch-hit,
infield single. After a pair of walks brought home the game-tying run, the
B-Mets picked up the biggest runs of the game on an unusual play: two runs
scored on a wild pitch thanks to a throwing error from the catcher.
MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights
L.J.
Mazzilli had himself a nice day at 2B – he’d be bailed out by Dominic Smith on
one of these throws.
Smith
made a nice diving stop in the 1st inning, though the camera was a
little slower than he was.
The
Matt Oberste at 3B experience continued, and he continued to at least get the job done.
