Recapish
The
Binghamton Mets couldn’t come through with the big hit Tuesday night, and
Altoona got to starter Mickey Jannis for 5 runs as they won the opener 5-1. The
B-Mets top hitter to date Matt Oberste started at 3B for the first time this
year and just the third time in his career. He looked a little uncomfortable at
the hot corner, but he didn’t do anything to hurt the club, and the positional
upgrade from 1B/DH would be huge for him.
Jannis
allowed 7 hits in the game, but he had a nearly 71% groundball rate on balls in
play, so he was getting the results he wanted. He worked around two of the
three walks he issued during a scoreless 2nd inning, but a one out
walk in the 3rd started the first Curve rally. Altoona would jump
ahead 2-0 on 3 singles in the frame. They had a single’s party in the 5th
inning against Jannis, scoring 3 runs on 4 more singles and a HBP.
The
B-Mets didn’t do much at the plate, but there are some MiLB.tv highlights from
the Binghamton offense and defense below, so enjoy! This series continues
Wednesday night at 6:35 PM, with Andrew Barbosa (1-0, 2.93 ERA) scheduled to
pitch.
Scoring Highlights
Derrik
Gibson led off the 6th inning with a single to RF, went to 2B on a
single from Kyle Johnson, and then came around to score the B-Mets only run on
consecutive groundouts from Matt Oberste and Dominic Smith.
Victor
Cruzado and Dominic Smith added singles.
Defensive Highlights
Matt
Oberste made the start at 3B and had a pair of chances at the hot corner - the second chance was more routine.
Mickey
Jannis made a strong throw to 1B after fielding a bunt in the 2nd
inning.
