Recapish
The
Binghamton Mets finally battled back from an early 4-0 deficit in the 6th
and 8th innings Sunday, only to see the Akron Rubber Ducks jump back
ahead both times.
Andrew Barbosa had his
swing-and-miss stuff working Sunday, but didn’t have great command, and he has
a small rope with his mid-80’s fastball. He allowed a homerun and RBI double in
the 2nd inning, and then a pair of leadoff walks came around to
score in the 3rd inning. He settled down after that, retiring 11 of
the final 13 Akron batters before yielding to the pen.
After
battling back for a second time in the 8th, the Rubber Ducks
collected 3 extra base hits against Luis Mateo in the 9th to put
this game away. There were two doubles and a homerun, though Akron manager Dave
Wallace was ejected arguing that Clint Frazier’s double was actually a homerun.
I
break down the B-Mets scoring details with highlights below, so enjoy! The B-Mets
left for Reading after the game to begin a 3-game series with the Fightin
Phils. Tyler Pill is scheduled to pitch for Binghamton in the opener, which
begins Monday night at 6:35 PM.
Scoring Highlights
L.J.
Mazzilli picked up his second double of the year with two outs in the 2nd
inning.
Dominic
Smith led off the 4th with a single to RF and then Matt Oberste
doubled him to 3B. Victor Cruzado followed by hitting a dribbler to 3B for an
RBI infield single. Colton Plaia brought home the second run of the inning with
a sac fly and Maikis De La Cruz made it a 4-3 deficit with an RBI groundout.
The B-Mets left the bases loaded in the frame.
A
pair of errors by Akron third baseman Joe Sever led to a run for L.J. Mazzilli
in the 6th.
Victor
Cruzado hit a one out double to LF in the 8th inning, but he would
be thrown out at 3B on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Mazzilli. Mazzilli
then stole 2B and came home on an RBI single from Plaia to tie the game at 5.
Smith
added an RBI single to bring home Derrik Gibson in the 9th inning,
but it was too little too late after the big Akron 9th.
