Recapish
The
Binghamton Mets played a tight 3-2 game with the Trenton Thunder for 7 innings
Monday afternoon before the Thunder exploded for 6 runs over the final two
frames to make this game a laugher by the end. The B-Mets showed some life at
the plate early, but then finished the game with just 2 hits over their final 7
trips to the plate.
It
wasn’t a bad outing for Lara, but the B-Mets needed a little more length out of
him, and he couldn’t hold the 2-1 lead he was given early. A wild pitch from
Lara allowed Dustin Fowler to advance into scoring position in the 1st,
and then Tyler Austin brought him home with a single to LF.
The B-Mets charged ahead with a two
run 1st inning, picking up half of their hits before an out was
recorded in the frame – highlights below. Lara allowed a one out double in the
2nd inning but induced a pop up and groundball from the next two
batters. Unfortunately Dominic Smith couldn’t field the sharply hit grounder,
and his error extending the inning for Tyler Wade. Wade made the B-Mets pay
with an RBI single to tie the game at 2.
Lara lost command to the first two
batters of the 3rd inning, which opened the door for a third Trenton
run. Juan Silva knocked in Austin with a sac fly to give Trenton a lead they
would not relinquish.
The Thunder added on with big
innings in the 8th and 9th, putting up multiple runs
against Alberto Baldonado and Beck Wheeler. Baldonado allowed all of the damage
against him with two outs, and then Dave Roseboom had to bail Wheeler out of
the 9th.
Victor Cruzado left after his second hit of the game. He wasn't showing an obvious leg injury by limping or anything, but he also didn't go for second base on the hit after a hard turn when the ball bounced away from the Trenton fielder's.
After the series Binghamton left for Erie, where they begin a series with the Sea Wolves. Tuesday night’s opener features a matchup between Robert Gsellman (1-4, 2.75 ERA) and Josh Turley (0-2, 9.00 ERA), and is scheduled to start at 6:35 PM.

MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
The
B-Mets took a 2-1 lead with four straight singles to start the 4th.
Victor Cruzado and Phillip Evans got it started, and then Matt Obertse and
Dominic Smith knocked them in.
Cruzado
singled in the 3rd before Maikis De La Cruz took over for him.
Maikis would be picked off at 1B right before Evans lined his 4th
double of the year into LF.
Colton
Plaia picked up his hit leading off the 4th inning and Stefan Sabol
lined a single into CF leading off the 7th.
MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights
His
numbers to date with the B-Mets aren’t pretty, but Phillip Evan has been one of the team’s
few bright spots since his bad first week.
