Recapish
Kevin
Canelon provided the Fireflies with another quality start on getaway day
against Augusta, and the Fireflies bats exploded for a 4-run 5th
inning to finally give him some run support. Though they only finished with
half as many runs as Tuesday night, the Fireflies lineup continued to connect
from top-to-bottom, and the team looks primed for a big winning streak.
Canelon’s
day couldn’t have started any better, as he struck out the side in the 1st,
and then Cola went out and got him a 1-0 lead. He ran into a speed bump in the
3rd inning after walking the leadoff batter. Seth Harrison followed
with a double, and the Green Jackets added two RBI singles in the frame to go
up 3-1. Canelon then had to work through trouble over the next 3 innings, which
is probably part of the reason why he left after 6 innings despite a low
74-pitch count.
The Fireflies had handed him a
cushy 6-3 lead before he took the mound for the last time in the 6th,
and Augusta immediately threatened to get some back. After the first two
reached, Canelon recovered to set down the final 3 batters he’d face in a row.
After a bumpy start, Tyler Bashlor
worked the 7th and 8th innings nicely. He walked the
first batter to face him and then uncorked a wild pitch, but he’d strand the
runner on 3B and pick up 3 K’s over 2 scoreless frames.
Alex Palsha worked the 9th
and immediately found himself in trouble, which is unusual for him. Jean
Angomas doubled to start the frame and eventually came around to score on a
wild pitch with Harrison at the plate. Palsha bounced back to set down to
strikeout Harrison, and then retired the final two batters of the game in short
order.
After the game Columbia jumped on
the bus for West Virginia, which does not have MiLB.tv coverage. So enjoy the
coverage below, because they won’t be back on until Monday in Rome. Tyler
Badamo (1-3, 3.54 ERA) is scheduled to make the start for Columbia in the
series opener Thursday night at 7:05 PM
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Vinny
Siena singled and scored in the 1st inning, with Patrick Mazeika
picking up the RBI hit – nice read by Siena on the flare from Mazeika.
Milton
Ramos picked up his hit leading off the 2nd inning.
Siena
lined a double into LF leading off the 3rd inning and eventually
came around on a sac fly from Kevin Kaczmarski.
Cola
took control of this game on a pair of doubles in the 5th inning.
Kaczmarski doubled home Jose Garcia to tie the game, and Patrick Mazeika hit a
bases clearing double two batters later, which made it a 6-3 game.
Garcia
doubled home Joe Tuschak in the 8th inning to cap the Fireflies
scoring for the day.
MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights
Cool
angle to watch Jose Garcia throw a runner out at 2B to end the 3rd inning.
