Check out yesterday’s results here. My schedule made it impossible for me to cover the games this past week, so I will be playing catch up to start the week, but I should be caught up over the next few days.

Recapish

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies rode a big 1st inning to an 8-5 victory over the Fisher Cats Monday night, as they took the opener of a three-game set with New Hampshire. Binghamton smacked five extra base hits in the 1st for six runs, knocking Cats starter Francisco Rios out of the game with just one out recorded. Ponies starter Joe Shaw was in line to benefit from the big 1st inning outburst, but Shaw couldn’t find the strike zone when he came out for the 4th, which forced the Binghamton bullpen into extra duty. Fortunately for Binghamton, the Ponies pen is one of the top pens in the minors, and four Rumbletown relievers were able to hold onto the lead for a Bingo win. As an aside, it was not a good night of coverage from the MiLB.tv crew.

Recapish

The Columbia Fireflies rode a great start from lefty Anthony Kay to a 5-0 win Sunday afternoon in South Carolina, which forced a series split with the Hickory Crawdads. Kay allowed just three singles over six scoreless to lower his ERA to a paltry 1.69 and earn his first professional win. Cola relievers Carlos Hernandez and Trey Cobb then combined to face the minimum over the final three innings as they held on to the first Fireflies shutout of 2018. After a quiet game Saturday, the Cola offense was at it again Sunday, with all but one batter reaching base for the Fireflies, and that batter (Quinn Brodey) had an RBI to help the cause anyway.
