Recapish
The
Binghamton Mets dropped to 6 games under .500 with another loss in Akron
Saturday night. Robert Gsellman returned from the DL for Binghamton and wasn’t
at his sharpest. The B-Mets had plenty of runners on base but they once again
failed to hit well with runners in scoring position.
Gsellman
had been moved to the DL with a groin injury, and he was a little rusty after
having basically skipped a start. His fastball command wasn’t too bad, but he
only threw a few worthwhile breaking balls all night. After working around
trouble in the first two innings, Gsellman would have his only clean inning in
the 3rd. The Rubber Ducks then started to take control of this game
with 3 runs over the next two innings against Gsellman. Akron loaded the bases
with nobody out in the 4th, but Gsellman was able to limit the
damage to just one run traded for a double play. He hit two lefties in the back
foot with his curve, the second of which came around to score in the 5th.
Clint Frazier had the best contact against Gsellman all night in that 5th
inning, smoking a fastball to the right center field wall for his 16th
double of the year.
Logan
Taylor came in to work the final 3 frames for Binghamton. After holding Akron
scoreless during the 6th and 7th innings, Taylor allowed
a pair of Akron insurance runs in the 8th.
I
break down the B-Mets scoring details with highlights below, and then include a
full iscorecast pitch log at the bottom, so enjoy! This series wraps up Sunday
afternoon at 2:05 PM, with Casey Delgado (1-1, 4.50 ERA) scheduled to pitch for
Binghamton.
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
The
B-Mets took a 1-0 lead when Jared King and Stefan Sabol doubled in the 2nd
inning.
Maikis
De La Cruz, Colton Plaia, and Sabol combined for a run on 3 singles in the 4th
inning, which gave the future Binghamton Stud Muffins a 2-0 lead.
Matt
Oberste picked up his hit with a two out single in the 1st inning. Maikis' first hit came in the fourth.
MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights
Matt
Oberste may be new to third base, but he’s getting the hang of the hot corner.
Clint Frazier tried to reach on a bunt his way, but Oberste charged and got the
job done.
I
wish they had a better angle for this catch, but here’s Maikis De La Cruz with
a full extension diving catch in CF to start the 8th.
