Recapish

The Columbia Fireflies made it two straight over Augusta with another strong showing at the plate Tuesday night. Although the offensive explosion stole the show early, the Fireflies co-ace Jordan Humphreys earned the headline with another dominant performance. Humphreys finished with eight strikeouts, zero walks allowed, and just an unearned run on two hits (although both went for extra bases). When the game was over, Humphreys joined Dallas Keuchel as the only two eight-game winners in all of affiliated baseball.

Recapish

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies arrived in Trenton just two games behind the Thunder for best record in the Eastern League. Binghamton took a hard-fought 3-0 lead with them into the 8th, but starter Donovan Hand was replaced with two outs and the inning exploded in Tim Peterson’s face. Still, the teams were tied heading to the 9th, but Manager Luis Rojas kept Peterson in the game for some reason, and an error opened the door for the winning run to score.

The only thing that could stop the Fireflies offense on Monday evening in Columbia was Mother Nature. The club was piling on and threatening for more in the 7th when rain finally hit the area, and given the score, the umps did not waste too much time before calling the game. The offensive charge was led by Dash Winningham, who became: the first Fireflies batter to have a multi-homer game, the first Fireflies batter this year with three extra base hits, the first Fireflies batter to reach six runs batted in during a game, and the first Fireflies batter to reach double digits in total bases during one game. Everyone in the lineup reached base at least once except Tim Tebow.

Recapish

The Rumble Ponies couldn’t complete a come back against Hartford Monday night, allowing the Yard Goats to leave Binghamton with a split of their four game series. Ponies starter P.J. Conlon’s changeup game was on point, which led to a lot of swinging strikes early, but the Yard Goats got to his other stuff for nine hits, including a double and solo homer. Things might’ve been worse for Conlon if not for the fine work controlling the run game done by his catcher Colton Plaia. The Rumble Ponies had chances to chip away at the lead throughout the game, but they kept running into outs, which left them one run short when they rallied in the 9th.
