Recapish
The
51s received another quality start from the young righty Gabriel Ynoa Monday
night, as they started their road trip with a 6-3 win over El Paso. Travis
Taijeron provided the big hit when he went deep in the 4th, but it
was a team effort on offense, and 7 of the 8 position players in the lineup
finished with a hit. In Mets rehab news, Josh Edgin threw a perfect 8th
inning while making his first appearance with Las Vegas, and I provide a pitch
log with pitch velocity and a few GIF’s at the bottom.
Ynoa’s
been using a sinker frequently this year, and the pitch was out in spades
Monday night. If the El Paso radar gun is to believed, Ynoa’s sinker was
sitting 86-87 most of the night, which is a far cry from the 91-94 expected of
him. It’s possible the gun was slow, but it seemed like it was generally within
appropriate range for other pitchers, and the 51s scoreboard was reporting
similar velocities in his last outing.
The
righty worked around trouble in the 1st and 2nd innings,
but couldn’t keep El Paso off the board after being handed a lead in the 4th.
With the exception of a few PA’s, he was working quickly and efficiently, and
the 1 walk allowed is a season low for Ynoa – he missed with his first 4
pitches of the game. Carlos Asuaje and Casey McElroy each managed 3 hits
against Ynoa, which means he held the rest of the lineup to just 1 hit. He was
helped out by 3 double plays turned behind him and generally good defense.
There was a misplay charged to Cecchini with two outs in the 6th,
but Ynoa brushed it off and struck Jose Pirela out to end the frame.
I
take a look at the offensive details with highlights below, so enjoy. I will
note that Gavin Cecchini is now 10 for his last 17 with two doubles and a
homerun. On the other side of the spectrum, Matt Reynolds went 0-5 with 4 K's in this game. This series continues with a matinee Tuesday afternoon at 1:05 PM ET Sean
Gilmartin is scheduled to pitch for Las Vegas, looking to give them some
separation from .500.
Scoring Highlights
Gavin
Cecchini started his night with a single into CF, but would be stranded on 1B
in the inning.
Johnny
Monell led off the 4th inning by reaching on an infield single, and
then came around to score on Travis Taijeron’s third homerun of the year. Roger
Bernadina followed with a single pulled into RF, and Cecchini doubled him home
to make it a 3-0 game.
T.J.
Rivera picked up an RBI single in the 7th inning.
Bernadina
led off the 8th with a long double off the wall that landed a few
feet shy of the yellow line. Marc Krauss and Ty Kelly provided RBI singles in
the frame.
