Recapish
The
Binghamton Mets took a tough loss Friday night in Akron, as the pen failed to
protect a lead after the offense battled back from down 6-0. The B-Mets offensive
explosion was limited to the 7th inning, and they did very little
else outside of that frame, but I break down all the highlights below!
Rainy
Lara was hit hard early and often in this start. After getting a pop out from
the first batter of the game, Lara allowed a double to Clint Frazier, RBI
single to Bradley Zimmer, and a two run blast to Nellie Rodriguez (his 9th
already) to fall behind 3-0. Frazier demolished a hanging slider from Lara for
a long homerun to LF leading off the 3rd inning. Akron added their third homerun off
Lara in the 6th inning, when Jordan Smith picked up his second blast
of 2016.
However,
by the time the 7th inning stretch rolled around, none of that
mattered. Maikis De La Cruz, Victor Cruzado, and L.J. Mazzilli all doubled in
the 7th, and then Derrik Gibson capped the B-Mets offensive outburst
with an RBi triple to CF that tied the game. Gibson came home on a wild pitch
to complete the B-Mets takeover of the game, and it seemed like the B-Mets
would pull this one out.
Unfortunately
Mike Hepple couldn’t hold the lead in the bottom of the 7th inning,
and then he’d be charged with the final run of the game in the 8th
inning. Luis Mateo took over for Hepple with a runner on 2B in the 8th
and immediately allowed an RBI double to Todd Hankins.
This
series continues Saturday evening at 6:35 PM, with no official B-Mets starter
announced for the game. If Robert Gsellman is ready to come off the DL, he’d be
the likely candidate to make the start.
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Dominic
Smith picked up his first hit of the game leading off the 2nd
inning.
Colton
Plaia doubled Victor Cruzado to 3B with one out in the 5th inning,
but the next two B-Mets went down swinging to end the threat. Cruzado added a single in the 8th, and Mazzilli added one in the 9th.
Smith’s
second hit of the game led off the 7th inning and sparked the 7-run
rally. Maikis De La Cruz, Victor Cruzado, and L.J. Mazzilli would double in the
inning, and then Derrik Gibson capped the rally with an RBI triple.
