Recapish
The
Binghamton Mets icy slide continued Thursday morning against Richmond, as they
managed only one run in support of a strong start from their ace Robert
Gsellman. The teams took a scoreless tie into the 7th, when Gsellman
blinked first and allowed 3 runs on 3 consecutive RBI doubles. In big league
Mets news, Wilmer Flores had another 0-fer at the plate in his rehab.
Gsellman
only had a pair of clean frames – the 5th and 6th inning
– and he never set down more than 7 in a row, but he basically just cruised
through the first 6 innings. He entered the 7th with just 68 pitches
thrown and it wasn’t out of the question that he could go the distance at that
point. Unfortunately, Gsellman allowed 3 runs on 4 straight hits with one out
in the frame, as the Squirrels finally got to him for some hard contact.
At
the plate, the B-Mets started 0-10 and then really only had scoring
opportunities in the 6th and 7th. With two outs in the 6th,
a pair of walks loaded the bases for Matt Oberste, but he’d fly out to end the
frame. They managed to scratch out a run in the 7th, but they again
left the bases loaded in the frame. Victor Cruzado went down swinging and
rehabbing Wilmer Flores hit a groundout to Ali Castillo to end the threat. A
big hit from the major leaguer in that spot would’ve totally changed the
outlook of this game.
There
weren’t many B-Mets highlights from this game, but enjoy the few below! Looking
for a win at any cost, the B-Mets turn to Casey Delgado (1-2, 5.52 ERA) Friday
night as the ‘rival’ Trenton Thunder come into town to start a weekend series.
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Victor
Cruzado singled in the 4th inning.
Jared
King doubled in the 5th inning.
Robert
Gsellman led off the 6th inning with a single, and the B-Mets loaded
the bases with two outs in the frame, but Matt Oberste would fly out to CF to
end the threat.
Colton
Plaia led off the 7th with a single and eventually came around to
score the B-Mets only run on an E6. Victor Cruzado struck out and Wilmer Flores
hit a groundout with the bases loaded to end the frame.
MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights
Wilmer
Flores had to run a long way for this slow grounder in the 6th
inning – good to see him getting tested a little. Matt Oberste committed his first error at 3B of the season, but he stuck with the play to get an out anyway.
