Recap

Dillon Gee tossed one of his best starts of the year in Sacramento Tuesday night, requiring just 99 pitches to go the distance against the River Cats. Sacramento’s starter, and former Atlanta Braves stud pitcher, Tommy Hanson’s career continued its unexpected spiral towards Indy ball, as the 51s tagged him for 8 runs over 3.1 IP. Brandon Nimmo made his 51s debut, picking up a single, 2 walks, a stolen base, and a sac fly, so it was a strong night. With 3 RBI’s and 3 runs scored – off of a pair of doubles and a single – Darrell Ceciliani paced the 51s offense, but the only Las Vegas player who did not get a hit was Gee, and even he still reached base on a pair of walks.
Check out the scoring highlights and Gee strikeouts below. As this game got out of hand, Wally chose to give his middle infielders the last few innings off, with Muno taking over SS duties for Wilfredo Tovar, Zach Lutz coming in for 3B, and T.J. Rivera taking over 2B. This series continues in Sacramento Wednesday night at 10:05 PM, with Tyler Pill (2-6, 7.60 ERA) scheduled to pitch for Las Vegas.

Recap

Michael Fulmer’s emergence as the Mets next top-pitching prospect continued Tuesday night against the Rock Cats, a team he has thoroughly owned this season. For the B-Mets, it was their 10th shutout of the season, and it extends the ridiculous stretch of pitching from the Binghamton staff that started June 11th. New Britain starter Ryan Arrowood matched zeros with Fulmer over the first 5 innings, shutting the B-Mets down after they missed a golden opportunity to break this game open in the 1st inning (see below for full scoring details and GIF highlights). Arrowood would yield to Gus Schlosser in the 6th, and Binghamton would immediately jump ahead on a Joe Benson RBI double in the inning. The Mets would add another pair of runs in the 8th, not that the B-Mets pen needed the insurance runs, as they’ve been just as good (if not better) than the Binghamton starters since June 11th. Jeff Walters, who has the B-Mets record of 38 saves in a season, continued his rehab from TJS with a perfect 7th, and then the pair of B-Mets closers each worked around a hit over the final two frames.
Fulmer has been absolutely dominant over his past 9 starts, allowing just 4 ER (9 R total) over 53.1 IP for a 0.68 ERA, with only 39 hits allowed during that span, and a 61 K: 9 BB ratio (29.8 K%: 4.4 BB%). He faced just two over the minimum in this start, but was held under 90 pitches for the seventh time in his last ten starts. Despite the low pitch total, he’s thrown into the 6th in 7 of those starts, and had one of those starts cut short at 46 pitches through 4 shutout innings, so he’s still giving the B-Mets solid length most starts. He allowed a pair of singles to the 8 and 9 hitters the first time through the order, but then went off for 7 K’s the second time through.
Check out the scoring highlights and more from this start on Fulmer below. This series continues Wednesday night at 6:35 PM, with Robert Gsellman (4-5, 3.47 ERA) scheduled to pitch for the B-Mets

Recap

The 51s and Aces played a tight game dominated by pitching in their series finale Monday night, with the Las Vegas offense coming up empty against Reno starter Caleb Clay. Both sides managed just 5 hits including a pair of doubles, but Reno was able to string together a few base runners before both of their doubles, which allowed them to knock in 3 runs against Las Vegas starter Darin Gorski across his 6 innings. Gorski had poor control throughout the start Monday night, which led to 6 walks over his 6 innings, including several on just 4 pitches. Cody Satterwhite was great in relief of Gorski, facing the minimum over 2 perfect innings, as Wally pushed him to 30+ pitches for a second straight appearance (he threw a season high 48 pitches Friday night). The 51s would bring the tying run to the plate with one out in the 9th inning after consecutive walks, but neither Las Vegas pinch-hitter could keep the wheel turning: Cory Vaughn struck out and Jayce Boyd hit a groundout to 2B that ended the game.
The 51s head to Sacramento Tuesday to face the River Cats, with Dillon Gee (4-1, 6.35 ERA) scheduled to pitch for Las Vegas, and a 10:05 PM scheduled start time.

Recap

The B-Mets return home did not go well Monday night, as they lost to the Rock Cats 4-1 despite a quality start from Gabriel Ynoa. After knocking Cats starter Ryan Carpenter out after 4 innings during his last start, the B-Mets could not get anything going against him in this game, scratching out only the 2nd inning run. The Cats got to Ynoa early, making him throw 45 pitches over the first two innings, and smacking a pair of extra base hits off of him for two runs in the 2nd inning. Ynoa would settle in nicely as he finished out his 6 innings, missing bats at an impressive rate over the final 3 innings. Pedro Lopez turned to Beck Wheeler and Josh Smoker to keep the game close in relief of Ynoa, but Smoker couldn’t work around a missed catch error in the 9th, and the Cats added an insurance run to make it a 4-1 game. The run would prove irrelevant though, as Binghamton never got anything going at the plate late in the game.
This series continues Tuesday night at 6:35 PM, with Michael Fulmer (5-2, 2.03 ERA) scheduled to pitch for the B-Mets.
