Check
out yesterday’s results here. ICYMI, Jayce Boyd has been promoted
to AAA (GIFs within); Robert Gsellman and John Gant are switching
spots (GIFs within); and the Mets added Casey Delgado to the Sand Gnats
roster yesterday, can he be another Indy
League pickup success story?

Trailing 2-0 and with two outs in the 3rd, Champ
Stuart lined a single into LF, which seemed innocent enough at the time. 6 batters
later, Stefan Sabol came through with his first hit for St. Lucie, picking up
an RBI single lined into CF. The Mets had five hits and a walk in between,
including back-to-back doubles from Oberste and Smith – Oberste’s cleared the
bases, and Smith’s reached the warning track in left center field. Kevin
McGowan had an overall strong effort for St. Lucie, continuing a trend of
improved results in the FSL – not great, but improved. The Mets brought Akeel
Morris to close things out over the final two innings, and his 30+-pitch count
was one of his highest totals in the FSL (per announcer Adam Mac). He ran into
some trouble with two outs in the 9th, allowing a double and then a
walk, but was still hitting 94 MPH with his second to last pitch, and his last
pitch was a weak groundout hit Dom Smith’s way.

The Gnats bat busted out to reach a double-digit run total
for just the second time this season. Wuilmer Becerra got the Gnats big day
going in his first PA, and would then make sure Tomas Nido always came up with
at least one person on base. Both of them singled in the 2nd, and
then Becerra came home on a force out. The way Martires Arias was pitching
through 5 (7 K, 2 H, 1 BB allowed to that point), 1 run looked like it would’ve
been enough, but Arias got wild with two outs, hitting Connor Spencer and
walking Vicente Conde before manager Jose Leger decided he had seen enough. The
Gnats brought in Frias with the bases loaded and two outs, and he would allow
all three runners to come home on a triple. The Gnats were still ahead though,
as they had added 2 runs in the 4th and 1 run in the 5th.
Nido doubled Becerra home in the 4th, and then scored on a two out
bunt single from Patrick Biondi. In the 5th, Nido picked up his second
RBI of the game, bringing home J.C. Rodriguez. After the Dogs made it close
again at 4-3, the Gnats responded with their biggest frame of the day. Biondi
would be retired for the first out of the frame, but then the next five batters
would reach – 4 singles and a Dogs error – to make it a 7-3 game. The Gnats
would add another run in that frame, and then Beccera tripled home two in the 7th,
which made it a 10-3 game.
Minors MVP of the Day
– Wuilmer Beccera had a perfect day at the plate, reaching base in all 5 PA's, with a triple and a walk. He will be in the conversation of top-10 Mets prospects by the end of the year, if he isn't already.
Minors Cy of the Day
– With no standout pitching performances, the nod goes to the lanky Arias, who entered the sixth with 0 runs allowed and 7 K's.
