The Marauders batted around for all 5 of their runs in the 1st, and then held off a late push by the Mets bats to even the series. Mets starter Kevin McGowan just couldn’t get the third out of the 1st inning, allowing a walk, single, walk, double, and single after picking up the second out of the inning, which accounted for all five runs. The Mets scratched out a run in the 4th and 3 more in the 6th, but wasted too many opportunities, leaving 5 men stranded in scoring position. In the 4th, Amed Rosario doubled home Dom Smith with a liner to left that bounced off the base of the wall. Rosario replaced Smith on the base paths in the 6th (single, FC), and then stole 2B to get in scoring position for Sabol, who has been hot since joining St. Lucie. Sabol came through with an RBI single, and then came home on the first of consecutive doubles from Glenn and McNeil with two outs. Unfortunately, the Mets then finished the game 0-10 against the Bradenton bullpen – they’d make 3 loud outs in the 9th, but not hits came of them.

Lineup
2B – Jonathan Johnson – 1-4, 2B (7), RBI (10), SAC
SS – Luis Guillorme – 0-5, R, 2 SO
RF – Wuilmer Becerra – 2-5, R, SO
DH – Eudor Garcia – 1-5, 2B (7), SO
1B – Jon Leroux – 1-5, RBI (21), SO
3B – Jean Rodriguez – 1-4, R
C – Tomas Nido – 2-4, R, HR (3), RBI (14), SO
LF – Vicente Lupo – 1-3, R, 2B (8), HBP
CF – Patrick Biondi – 1-4
Bullpen:
Alberto Baldonado (H, 2, 1.98 ERA) – 2 IP, 2 SO, 2 GO
Jimmy Duff (S, 3, 3.42 ERA) – 1 IP, H, SO, 1 GO

The Gnats pulled to within 1 win of .500 behind recent Indy league import Casey Delgado in Asheville. Savannah jumped out to a 4-0 lead with runs in each of the first 3 innings and never looked back, although it was a tight 1-run affair for half of an inning. Guillorme reached on an E5 in the 1st, and then scored 3 batters later on an E6 – errors were a trend for the Tourists. Tomas Nido led off the 2nd with a HR to right-center field, which is not very deep at McCormick Field (it’s 297 down the RF line, 373 to CF), but still nice to see from a right-handed catcher. Lupo followed with a double, and then scored on a sac bunt credited to Johnson – I imagine he was trying to bunt for a hit. The bottom of the order provided another run with two outs in the 3rd. JC and Nido singled, and then a Lupo HBP loaded the bases for Biondi. Biondi would groundout, but not before a balk brought home a run. Delgado would retire the first 6 in a row, but then allowed an unearned run in the 3rd when JC threw the potential third out away. The Tourists added another run in the 4th on the strength of Shane Hoelscher’s legs – he singled into CF, stole 2B, and then scored on a single to RF. Asheville would add one more against Delgado in the 6th, combining two doubles for a run. The Gnats worked quick to get the run back though, with Becerra leading off the 7th with a single, and then scoring on the third error of the inning two batters later. Alberto Baldonado did a great job shutting things down with two perfect innings, and the Duffman got a double play grounder from Dom Nunez to end things in the 9th.

Minors MVP of the Day – A number of multi-hit games throughout the system, but Tomas Nido also provided a homerun, his third of the year.
Minors Cy of the Day – I still know nothing about his stuff (apparently an average fastball), but Casey Delgado has won the Cy of the Day in both of his appearances, and helped pull the Sand Gnats to within 1 game of .500 again.
