Gee makes his first AAA start since 2011, when the team was in Buffalo – this
might be a decent baseline comparison for other ‘Dillon Gee types’ in the Mets
system as they enter the league; Wilfredo Tovar is 7-15 over his last 4 games
and has a .781 OPS in June; Matt Reynolds has shown some discouraging splits so
far this year, with a .864 OPS at home/.608 OPS on the road, and a .936 OPS vs.
L/.638 OPS vs R.

Pre-game notes: Michael
Conforto and Brandon Nimmo were named to the futures game today; the B-Mets
have consistently used a lineup featuring Cecchini-Mazzilli-Conforto-Peterson
or J Rod-Nimmo since Nimmo’s return, but I’d like to see Nimmo move up a
little; the Mets had 4 first round picks in the lineup last night, with
Cecchini leading off at SS, Conforto batting 3rd and in LF, Nimmo
batting 5th and in CF, and Fulmer the starting power pitcher; Fulmer
has now allowed 1 ER or less in 6 of his 9 starts with Binghamton, but 12 ER
over his other 3 starts; Fulmer has a 0.52 ERA over his last 3 starts (17.1
IP), with 17 K: 4 BB, 12 hits and 4 walks, and an overall .550 OPS allowed; also, Fulmer hit 99 MPH multiple times last night; tonight’s starter Robert Gsellman lasted into the 7th for the first
time with Binghamton in his last start, allowing 3 R on 6 hits and 3 walks,
with only 3 strikeouts; just a reminder that relief pitcher Tim Peterson can be activated within the next 10 days, although he'll likely start at a level lower than Binghamton.

Post-game recap: Miller
Diaz was left in one inning too long Thursday night, and the Marauders took
advantage to come back for a win in the second-half opener. Miller Diaz would
allow a single to the first batter of the game, but then only 4 more hits and a
HBP through the end of the 6th inning, stranding all 4 runners to
that point. The Mets had handed him a 2-0 lead with a run in each of the 2nd
and 3rd innings, but the 7th inning flipped the game
around. In the 2nd, Amed Rosario walked and scored on a force out,
but rehabbing Daniel Murphy left runners on 2B and 3B with two outs in the
frame. The Mets wasted a bigger opportunity in the 3rd, loading the
bases with 0 outs, but then settling for one run on a sac fly from Rosario.
Diaz would face 6 batters in the 7th and 6 of them would reach: pop
single to Rosario, bunt single to Murphy, force out, RBI single grounded into
LF, HBP, BB, 2 RBI single to RF. Roseboom took over and finished the frame
after hitting a batter, and then worked two more scoreless innings – this shouldn’t
be surprising, he’s only allowed a run in 2 appearances so far this year. The Mets
threatened to come back for a tie in the 9th, but they’d come up one
run short. The suddenly red hot Jeff Glenn hit a one out double to RF to get
things started, and then scored on an RBI single from Oberste. With the tying
run at 3B, 80-speed Champ Stuart pinch running as the go ahead run at 1B, and one
of the best hitters in the FSL over the past 6 weeks at the plate, this game
was full of drama and excitement at the end, and I pity any fool who left
early. Dom Smith would fly out to RF to end the game, but it was a more
exciting moment than you’ll see in most games.
Pre-game notes: St.
Lucie begins their second half at home against Bradenton; Jeff McNeil
definitely made a case for a promotion in the first half, hitting
.326/.383/.401, with 9 doubles, 3 triples, a homerun, 11-13 on stolen bases, and
a 10.3 K%: 6.6 BB% over 272 PA; thanks to a huge surge over the past 6 weeks,
Dom Smith finished the first half at .296/.336/.417, with 22 doubles, 2
homeruns, 1 stolen base, and a 19.3 K%: 5.3 BB% over 244 PA; Matt Oberste had a
solid first half, and is currently second on the team in OPS (if McNeil stays),
slashing .278/.341/.418, with 12 doubles, 3 triples, 3 homeruns, and a 18.4 K%:
6.9 BB% over 217 PA; Amed Rosario finishes the first half at .268/.311/.357,
with 16 doubles, 4 triples, 8-12 on stolen bases, and a 17.2 K%: 4.1 BB%.

Post-game recap: After
an excellent 1st inning, Sand Gnats starter Casey Delgado ran into
trouble during the 2nd and 3rd innings, and then finished
with his shortest start and most ER allowed in an appearance all season. With
two outs and a runner on 2B in the 2nd, Brandon Downes extended the
frame by reaching on an infield single to Eudor, and then 2 runs score on a
triple to RF from Samir Duenez. In the 3rd, he’d allow the first 3
batters to reach – homerun, single single/E7 – and then the Legends extended
their lead to 4-0 on a sac fly. Delgado got a very high rate of swinging
strikes Thursday night, but things did not go his well results-wise – of the
two, the swinging strike rate is more important for evaluation at this level. The
Sand Gnats finally got on the board with two outs in the 5th thanks
to a Vicente Lupo bomb to LF, but that was their entire offense for the game.
Pre-game notes: The
Sand Gnats begin the second half against Lexington, with possible promotions
looming; David Roseboom has already announced that he’s headed for St. Lucie,
but there are other moves the Mets could make throughout the system today; they
finished the first half as champions for the fifth time in six years; Wuilmer
Becerra finished the first half at .289/.336/.480, with 17 doubles, 3 triples,
8 homeruns, 7-10 on stolen bases, and a 21.4 K%: 5.6 BB% over 266 PA; Eudor
Garcia finished the first half at .289/.324/434, with 9 doubles, 2 triples, 4
homeruns, 2 stolen bases, and a 23.2 K%: 4.9 BB% over 185 PA; Luis Guillorme
finished the first half at .305/.370/.325, with 5 doubles, 8-11 on stolen bases,
and a 14.1 K%: 9.1 BB% over 276 PA; Casey Meisner finished with a 2.13 ERA over
76 IP (12 GS, 6.1 IP/start) thanks to only 59 hits allowed, and a 21.9 K%: 6.3
BB%.

Post-game recap: Tyler
Badamo came out on the wrong end of a pitcher’s duel, failing to get a decision
for a second straight strong outing, but posting some very good peripherals
(per gameday) thanks to an improved changeup. He worked around a single with
two outs in the 1st, struck out two in a perfect 9th, and
then induced two groundouts and a swinging strikeout in the 3rd. The
Cyclones would finally break through in the 3rd, with a sac fly
bringing home Kaupe, who had tripled for his first hit of the season – the ball
was misplayed in CF, and Kaupe went halfway to home before getting back to 3B
just in time. The Tigers charged right back to tie it in the 4th,
picking up two singles to start the frame, and then scoring on a force out/E3. A
grounder to Fulmer at 3B was thrown around the horn, but the Cyclones could
only get the out at 2B, and Jose Zambrano had never stopped running from 2B, so
Mathieu was forced to make a throw home, which got away from Garcia. In the 6th,
Brett Pirtle led off with a double against Badamo, and then came around to
score on a sac fly to give Connecticut a 2-1 lead. David Thompson would make
his pro debut as a pinch hitter with two on in the 7th, but he ended
the frame with a double grounder hit to 3B. He’d stay in at 3B and field a pair
of plays with no problems.
Pre-game notes: Last
night’s starter Jose Celas pushed himself onto the Cyclones roster over the
last 3 weeks of extended spring training, as he started hitting 92 MPH on his
fastball with consistency, and mixing in a nice breaking ball; tonight’s
starter Tyler Badamo was very effective in his Cyclones
debut, allowing only 2 runs on 2 hits over 6 innings, with 5 strikeouts and
a 7.2% swinging strike rate; the Cyclones game notes said the Mets 2015 4th
round pick was to be activated yesterday, but then he wasn’t, and Manager Tom
Gamboa said the team was hoping to have him, as well as P.J. Conlon, by Friday;
Michael Bernal was a last minute scratch yesterday with a tight hamstring, and
may miss Thursday night as a precaution too; the Mets 14th round
pick of 2015 Vinny Siena has a hit in every game with the team, including 3
straight two-hit games, and Gamboa said he’s ‘a lock for the 2-hole.’

Post-game recap: The
K-Mets used their first big outburst on offense to overcome a rough start from
Audry German. They jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st on just 2
hits – Dash hit a 2-run bomb with one out, and then Ramos scored on a single
and some poor defense. But the Cardinals would come back to tie things up in
the bottom of the 1st, as the first 3 picked up extra base hits off
of German: double, double, homerun. The K-Mets jumped back in front in the 2nd
on a piar of doubles from Rojas and Ramirez. German worked around a two out
single in the 2nd, but then again gave up 3 straight extra base hits
with one out in the 3rd: double, homerun, double. Knight picked up
his first hit to tie the game in the 4th, as he launched a 2-run
bomb to LF. They’d take the lead for good in the 5th, with a Ramos
single sparking a two out rally. The next 3 batters would reach – single, HBP
to load the bases, wild pitch for a run, 2-run single – before Ortega was
picked off to end the rally. Knight didn’t get to finish his AB in the 5th,
but he capped the K-Mets scoring with another homerun leading off the 6th,
making it a 10-6 game. Adrian Almeida came in to bail German out in the 6th,
but would allow a run in the 7th and 9th innings. He got
very wild after striking out the first batter in the 9th, walking
the next 4 before Feliz came in to finish the game with 2 strikeouts (both swinging).

Minors MVP of the Day
– Really, how can you argue with 5 hits, including 2 doubles? That just doesn't happen too often, so great job Brandon Allen.
Minors Cy of the Day
– Tyler Badamo could be 2-0 with some more run support, but it's just good to see him having this much success already. Manager Tom Gamboa describes him as someone who they are confident can keep the Cyclones in it for 5-6 innings every time out there.
