Post-game recap: A night after being dominated by a couple of rehabbing major leaguers (specifically Jose Fernandez), the St. Lucie Mets exploded for 9 runs behind another great start from John Gant, to destroy Jupiter 9-0, and even the series. This game was one-sided from the start, with the Mets scoring their first run just two batters into the game. Yeixon Ruiz reached on a dribbler down the 3B line to leadoff with a single, and then McNeil doubled over the left fielder’s head (he misjudged the fly ball initially) to drive him in. Smith singled McNeil home two batters later for a 2-0 lead. John Gant has been very good since joining St. Lucie, essentially doing what Gsellman was doing here, except with a (much) better strikeout rate so far. He was sitting 92-93 MPH tonight, per the radio, and even touched 94 per the stadium gun. The only inning that he allowed multiple hits in was the 4th, which was the last inning he allowed a hit in. Austin Dean led off with a double to RF, but he’d be erased trying to advance to 3B on a groundout back to Gant. That turned out to be a big play (for the shutout, not the overall result), as Justin Bohn followed with a double that would’ve scored Dean from 2B. The Mets just kept tacking on: Smith doubled home two runs in the 3rd, McNeil singled home Glenn in the 4th, Stuart tripled home 2 runs in the 5th, and then Glenn doubled Sabol home in the 7th, before Stuart followed with an RBI single. Long Island native John Mincone worked a scoreless inning in his St. Lucie debut, working around a two out single from Austin Dean.

Post-game recap: Kevin Canelon put the Cyclonesin a hole too big to overcome, and then the Valley Cats just kept adding on. Canelon dug himself a hole in the 1st, walking the first batter, and then committing a throwing error to allow the second batter to reach. He’d allow a single to load the bases before finally retiring a batter, having to trade an out for a run. Bryan Muniz followed with a 2-run double, and Tri-City was quickly ahead 3-0. Michael Bernal put the Cyclones on the board for 2 in the 1st when he hit a two run homerun for the second straight night, and it looked like we’d have a close game after all. It took 24 pitches, but Canelon worked around a walk for a scoreless frame in the 2nd, but then really struggled in the 3rd. All 5 batters to face Canelon in the 3rd would reach, but he was credited an out when Muniz was thrown out at home, with the OF assist going to Tharp. Bumgarnder was the first to replace Canelon, and he immediately allowed an inherited runner to score on a single. The Cats would add 2 more runs against Gaither in the game, both coming on solo blasts. In the 4th, Mathieu led off with a single, and then came around to score on a two out single from Perez. Tharp led off the 5th inning with a single, ended up on 3B after a single from Siena, and then scored on a sac fly from Bernal. After Nicco Blank came in firing strikes (6 of his first 7 pitches), he got extremely wild (6 of his next 18 pitches for strikes), but kept things scoreless. Reyes worked a scoreless 8th, but allowed 4 straight to reach with two outs in the 9th for 3 more Tri-City runs.

Post-game recap: The K-Mets won a tight, back-and-forth affair in their season opener Tuesday night, walking off with a win in the 10th. The Cardinals jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on a two out double, but Kingsport was quick to tie it up. Raphael Ramires led off with a double, and then came around to score on a sac fly from Dash. Milton Ramos led off the 2nd inning with a double down the RF line, and Arnaldo Berrios singled him home two batters later for a 2-1 Kingsport lead. Gonzalez held onto that lead until the 6th, when Edmundo Sosa led off with a triple to RF. Magneuris Sierra singled him home to tie the game, but Horal rebounded to retire the next 3 in a row. The Mets were quick to respond, with Dash doubling home Luis Carpio from 1B in the bottom of the 6th. Unfortunately, Harol would give that run right back in the 7th before Nabil Crismatt came in as his replacement. Crismatt was extremely sharp over his 3.1 IP (apparently working with a killer curveball), allowing only the 1 base runner. In the 10th, Dionis Rodriguez led off with a double, went to 3B on a sac bunt, and then scored on a sac fly to send the K-Mets faithful in attendance home happy.

Post-game recap: The GCL Mets twice couldn’t protect a one run lead, and then their comeback attempts came up short Tuesday afternoon. They’d jump out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st when Cespedes came around to score after reaching on a HBP. Victor Moscotre picked up the RBI single to start his big day. After 2 scoreless innings to start the game, Huertas ran into trouble in the 3rd, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks. Two more Mets batters would be hit by a pitch in the 4th (Bautista and Rasquin), and then Burdick doubled them home with two outs to take the lead back at 3-2. Huertas came back out for the 4th and allowed the first two to reach on a walk and a single. He’d get groundouts to the SS from the next two batters, which could’ve been enough to get him out of the inning, but they’d settle for a force out on the first grounder, and then De Aza committed a fielding error on the next one. After the pitching change, the Marlins hit back-to-back triples, and then took two straight walks to load the bases. With the game on the verge of getting out of hand, Jose Martinez recovered to strikeout the next 2 batters, both swinging. The Mets would get a run back in both the 6th and 7th innings, but it wasn’t enough. In the 6th, Rasquin walked and scored on a couple of wild pitches. In the 7th, Moscote and Crisostomo started the inning with singles, and then Ricardo walked to load the bases, but they’d trade a groundout for a run before De Aza and Rasquin went down on strikes.

Minors MVP of the Day – With all due respect to Brock Peterson, I have to give it up to Dominic Smith, who is rocketing up to the top of the FSL charts in a lot of offensive categories.
Minors Cy of the Day – Sticking in St. Lucie, John Gant had another sparkling performance for St. Lucie, and a consistently low-90's fastball is a nice report to get on him.
