Top prospects for the Colorado Rockies with New Britain

Organizational rankings are from the 2015 Baseball America Prospect Handbook

David Dahl, LHH CF, 21
Ranked #1, BA Grade: 65, High risk

BA describes Dahl as a ‘gifted centerfielder’ and a ‘potential five-tool player,’ which earned him the #1 ranking in the Rockies system, but he has yet to start hitting in AA - .269/.296/.379, with a poor 22.2 K%: 3.7 BB%.

Tom Murphy, RHH C, 24
Ranked #6, BA Grade: 50, Medium risk

Murphy is a little older for AA, but catcher’s age ‘differently’ as prospects, and Murphy is having a very nice season. He has a great reputation behind the plate, with BA suggesting he works well with the staff, is good at blocking/receiving, and has a strong arm/quick release. He only has a .269 AVG so far, but it’s the power that makes him interesting – he has 15 2B, 1 3B, 8 HR in 201 AB, which is good for a .203 ISO.

Trevor Story, RHH SS, 22
Ranked #12, BA Grade: 50, High risk

The B-Mets might be catching Story as he comes out of a little funk, as he comes in with a 4-game hitting streak, including two straight 2-hit games. BA suggested that he’s a step slow at SS this past offseason, and he’s played 11 games off of SS so far this year – 9 at 2B, 2 at 3B (14 career at 2B, 56 career at 3B). He strikes out too much, but trades the contact for great power, as he has a .243 ISO in 239 PA this year.

Carlos Estevez, RH RP, 22
Ranked #26, BA Grade: 45, High risk

Estevez made the list as a relief pitcher because he can sit 95-96 with a power heater, and touch 98+ at times. He has a nice 25 K%: 5 BB% in his first 8.2 IP with New Britain.

Recent Injuries/Transactions

Gavin Cecchini was scratched during Thursday’s game after ‘feeling something’ during BP. Jairo Perez rejoined the roster after some time in Las Vegas. Yeixon Ruiz was demoted in favor of L.J. Mazzilli.  Chase Huchingson was promoted to Las Vegas, which is a scary proposition with the way he's pitched this year.
