Recap

Robert Gsellman had a wild 1st inning, and then the B-Mets bats never really woke up, as they lost the opener in New Hampshire. Michael Conforto continued to punish AA pitching, extending his on base streak to all 18 games with Binghamton, but he didn’t get much help. Dario Alvarez came in for the 8th and held the Cats scoreless, which gave Conforto a chance to lead off the 9th as the tying run, but he’d strike out swinging to start a quiet inning.
Gsellman had one of his more effective AA starts, but he’s still not dominating the Eastern League like he did the Florida State League. He only induced 3 swinging strikes throughout the start, with 2 of them coming during his final frame of the night, and that’s well below average. He did finish strong, picking up 2 of his strikeouts during that 7th inning, bouncing back after the Cats had added a key insurance run in the 6th. He fell behind in the 1st because he couldn’t find the strike zone, walking consecutive batters, and unleashing a wild pitch that allowed the second run to score. He worked a clean 2nd inning, but wouldn’t do that again until the 7th. In the 6th, the Cats strung together two straight singles and a walk to load the bases, and added their third run of the game on a sac fly. Note that the Cats scored a run in both innings during which Gsellman walked a batter.
There weren’t many highlights on offense in this game, and the Fisher Cats camera angle is limited to a CF view, but at least that makes capturing the pitchers easier. This series continues Saturday night at 7:05 PM, with Seth Lugo scheduled to pitch for the B-Mets.

Scoring Highlights

Michael Conforto led off the 7th with a triple, and then scored on a single from Brock Peterson. Brandon Nimmo would add a single, and then Dustin Lawley brought Peterson home with a two out RBI single.
