Post-game recap: Strikeout artist Brad Wieck put up another huge K performance for Savannah Sunday afternoon, helping them finish off a sweep of the talented Greenville Drive roster. Wieck wouldn’t allow a run until there were two outs in the 7th, and by then the Gnats had scored all 3 of their runs. Tomas Nido tripled home a run in the 2nd (see below). Patrick Biondi created a run in the 3rd without a Savannah hit, earning a leadoff walk, stealing 2B, heading to 3B on a fly out to CF, and scoring on a groundout to Moncada – he’s been using his speed to great effect lately. Nido providing another RBI hit in the 4th, bringing home Eudor Garcia from 3B after Eudor and Mora had singled in the frame. Wieck just keeps mowing down these SAL hitters, so I can’t wait to see what he does in the FSL during the second half, because there is no reason for him to keep pitching against competition he so clearly dominates. David Roseboom and James Duff finished off the game with two scoreless frames – they have made for an excellent L/R 1-2 punch out of the Gnats pen.

Nido's triple

Minors MVP of the Day – Michael Conforto finished a triple shy of the cycle, continuing his hot start in AA.
Minors Cy of the Day – Brad WiecKKKKKKKKKK was in control against a strong Greenville lineup, adding onto his league best strikeout total, which is now at 74 K’s in 56 IP (second place has 60 K’s in 55.1 IP)
