Top prospects for opposing teams

Organizational rankings are from the 2015 Baseball America Prospect Handbook

Tony Kemp, LHH 2B, 23 (5’6”)
Ranked #18, BA Grade: 45, Medium risk

BA says Kemp is similar in size and style to Jose Altuve, except he also plays some OF. He had a .358 average over the first 50 games of the year in AA, and has kept hitting in 8 games since his promotion to AAA.

Max Stassi, RHH C, 24
Ranked #20, BA Grade: 40, Low risk

Stassi has some pop in his bat, but he strikes out too often, and doesn’t walk much. He’s off to a very poor start with Fresno, slashing only .187/.245/.367, but he does have 7 homeruns.

Brady Rodgers, RH SP, 24
Ranked #22, BA Grade: 22, Medium risk

Rodgers has been hit-or-miss for Fresno this year, with 5 starts of 1 ER or less allowed, and 5 starts of 4 ER or more allowed. BA says his slider flashes plus when he gets on top of it, and that his change can be deceptive and show some nice sink.

Jake Buchanan, RH SP, 25
Ranked #27, BA Grade: 40, Low risk

By ER, Buchanan has had one bad start with Fresno, when he allowed 8 ER against El Paso on 5/4, but he hasn’t consistently gone deep into his other starts. BA says his break-and-butter pitches are a solid sinker and nice cutter, but he doesn’t have much velocity on either.

Asher Wojciechowski, RH SP, 26
Ranked #28, BA Grade: 45, High risk

Woj has some nice velocity, but BA projects him as more of a reliever than starter at the highest level. He’s been solid outside of 2 starts for Fresno this year, but has only 32 K’s in 49 IP.

Recent Injuries/Transactions

Rainy Lara was promoted for a start this past Tuesday, was ‘demoted’ off the team (on paper only), and has been added back for Sunday’s start. After being stretched out for a couple of starts over his last few appearances, Logan Verrett was promoted to the Mets for their bullpen. Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Anthony Recker made their first 2015 starts with Las Vegas against the Bees. Darin Gorski was put on the temporary inactive list, but is still scheduled to pitch Saturday.
