Recap
Seth
Lugo was hit around a little bit Sunday afternoon in Binghamton, but the B-Mets
bats woke up late, and Michael Conforto provided walk-off heroics for the
second time since joining Binghamton. Lugo allowed a well-struck double that
led to a run in the 1st inning, and then a 2R-HR after Gavin
Cecchini committed a throwing error in the 3rd inning. Eudy Pina
provided some early pop for Binghamton, hitting a long HR out to LF for a
short-lived 3-1 lead after 2 (see below for more scoring details and
highlights). Lugo would work around some base runners in the 4th and
5th innings, but the Cats would touch him up for a run in the 6th
before he departed. Beck Wheeler was the first to come in from the pen, and
he’d allow a two out bomb to Tom Murphy, which extended the Cats lead to 5-3.
Binghamton would scratch back for a run in the bottom of the 7th,
but they left Conforto on deck with a runner on 2B. Wheeler struck out the
first two batters in the 8th but then issued a walk to Will Swanner,
so Pedro Lopez brought in Dario Alvarez to finish the inning, and he did with a
pickoff of Swanner at 1B. LI native (Huntington) John Mincone made his AA debut
in the 9th and worked around a leadoff single for a scoreless
inning - Mincone had never pitched above A ball with Savannah. The B-Mets were quick to tie things in the 9th, but then
found themselves down to Conforto with two outs and the winning run on 3B. But,
of all the available players that could be up in that spot, I don’t think
manager Pedro Lopez would choose anyone over Michael Conforto. And he did not
disappoint, hitting an RBI single back up the middle to finish the sweep of
first place New Britain.
Binghamton
has Monday off as they travel to Portland for their next series, which starts
Tuesday at 7 PM.
Scoring Highlights
Eudy
Pina gave Binghamton a 3-1 lead in the 2nd inning with his first
homerun of the year.
Now
trailing 5-3, Jared King led off the 7th with a single lined into
CF. After being double-switched in at the beginning of the frame, Josh
Rodriguez would get his first AB of the game in the bottom half, and doubled
home King from 1B to make it a 5-4 game.
J
Rod would tie things up with an RBI single in the 9th.
With
two outs and runners on the corners in a tie game, Michael Conforto hit a 1-2
pitch back up the middle for an RBI single to give Binghamton a walk-off win!
Bonus
Michael Conforto making a nice catch in LFHe paused some, but one knock on Conforto is that he is not too fast
Gavin Cecchini's error
