Lineup

P – Steven Matz – 0-2
C – Nelfi Zapata – 0-2
Bullpen:
Cody Satterwhite (6.29 ERA) – 0.1 IP, H, BB, 1 FO

Pre-game notes: Matt Reynolds is riding a modest 4-game hit streak, going 5-16 with a HR and 7 RBI over that time; the 51s offense finally broke out Friday, but they still extended their losing streak to 9, with this low coming not long after the high of a 14-game winning streak earlier in that ended in May; T.J. Rivera is 0 for his last 30; P Darin Gorski has 4 doubles in 11 AB for a .909 SLG; Vic Black’s first rehab chance with Las Vegas did not go well, allowing 4 ER on 2 H and 2 BB over 0.1 IP for a 108.00 ERA; it’s Iron Matz night, and the 51s need a win, so expect something big from the clutch lefty!

Lineup

Bullpen:
Matt Koch (BS, 2, 3.10 ERA) – 0.2 IP, H, SO, 1 GO, 2 IR – 2 S
Chase Huchingson (5.26 ERA) – 1 IP, 2 GO
Bobby Parnell (15.19 ERA) – 1 IP, 1 GO: 2 FO
Beck Wheeler (W, 3-1, 6.00 ERA) – 1 IP, H, 2 GO: 1 FO

Pre-game notes: The B-Mets fell under .500 after being swept by ‘rival’ Trenton at home earlier this week, and now they face ‘rival’ Reading, which features some of the top prospects in the Phillies organization; Gavin Cecchini and Michael Conforto have made a nice 2-3 combo in the lineup so far (can you believe Cheech was mostly the 8-hitter until recently); Cecchini means ‘sniper’ in Italian, so a new nickname for Gavin nickname could be ‘The Assassin’ (or some play on that, I’m not attached to it); The Assassin’s 6-game multi-hit streak was snapped yesterday, he had gone 15-24 during the stretch; speaking of nicknames, Conforto needs some good ones; Aderlin Rodriguez had a modest 4-game hit streak snapped too, but he had gone 8-16 with two homers and a double during the stretch.

Full recap

Miller Diaz (3-3, 3.45 ERA) @ Rob Kaminsky (3-3, 2.76 ERA)
@Palm Beach (25-29) at 6:35 PM
Yesterday: L 3-2 (St. Lucie, Palm Beach)
Today: W 5-3, Diaz (W 4-3, 3.47 ERA) – 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 5 BB, 4 SO, 8 GO: 1 FO
Lineup
CF – Champ Stuart – 1-4, BB, SB (14), 2 SO
2B – Dilson Herrera – 3-4
DH – Travis d’Arnaud – 2-4, 2 RBI (3)
3B – L.J. Mazzilli – 0-5, SO
1B – Dominic Smith – 1-5, R, 2B (19), RBI (28), SO
SS – Amed Rosario – 2-5, 2B (14), RBI (13), SO
LF – Stefan Sabol – 1-5, R, SB (3), 2 SO
C – Colton Plaia – 2-4, R
RF – Victor Cruzado – 1-4, R, RBI (3)
Bullpen:
Kelly Secrest (H, 2, 3.33 ERA) – 2 IP, BB, 2 GO: 3 FO
Akeel Morris (S, 10, 1.59 ERA) – 2 IP, 2 H, R, 3 SO

Pre-game notes: St. Lucie couldn’t win despite out pitching and out hitting Palm Beach, and featuring two rehabbing major leaguers in the lineup; Dominic Smith’s 16-game hitting streak was snapped Thursday; starter Miller Diaz has incrementally gone from 2 walks 4 starts ago to 5 walks in his last start, but he’s yet to allow more than 3 ER in a start; St. Lucie lasted just one game above .500 this week, can they get back there?

Post-game recap: St. Lucie would not waste another chance to win with multiple major leaguers in the lineup against Palm Beach, evening the series behind a big night from the rehabbing Mets Dilson Herrera and Travis d’Arnaud. T∂A picked up the first big hit of the night for St. Lucie, driving in two runs with two outs and the bases loaded in the 2nd on a single grounded back up the middle. The Mets had scored their first run of the frame on an E6 with Sabol on 3B. Palm Beach charged back for a run in the 2nd thanks to the wild arm of Miller Diaz, who walked two in the frame to load the bases, which allowed a groundout to score a run. Rosario added a ground-rule double to RF in the 3rd, but nothing would come of it. Diaz was burned by two more walks in the 3rd, but struck out the final two batters of the frame to avoid further damage. That would be all of the scoring until the 9th, with neither side really threatening in between. In the 9th, Dom Smith gave the Mets some much needed insurance with a two-out RBI double to bring home Phil Evans from 1B. Rosario would follow with an RBI single to make it a 5-2 game. Jimmy Bosco led off the 9th with a double against Akeel Morris, and then came home to score on consecutive groundouts. With the bases empty, and the Mets enjoying a 2-run lead, Morris would strikeout C.J. McElroy to end the game.

Jalen Beeks (5-1, 3.31 ERA) @ Scarlyn Reyes (4-4, 3.32 ERA)
vs. Greenville (31-23) at 7:05 PM
Yesterday: W 4-2 (Savannah, WSAV - video)
Today: W 4-0, Reyes (W, 5-4, 2.86 ERA) – 7 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 5 SO, 92 Pitches (57 Strikes), 10 GO: 4 FO
Lineup
2B – Jonathan Johnson – 2-3, R, BB
SS – Luis Guillorme – 1-2, BB, SAC
DH – Wuilmer Becerra – 2-3, R, HR (7), RBI (25), BB, SO
3B – Eudor Garcia – 0-3, R, BB, 2 SO
1B – Jon Leroux – 2-4, RBI
C – Tomas Nido – 1-4, R, HR (4), RBI (15)
LF – John Mora – 1-3, RBI (25), SF, SO
RF – Tucker Tharp – 0-4, 2 SO, CS
CF – Patrick Biondi – 0-3
Bullpen:
Ben Griset (1.50 ERA) – 2 IP, BB, 3 SO

Pre-game notes: Savannah has a chance to get over .500 with a win over the talented Greenville roster Friday; Wuilmer Becerra has raised his batting average ~30 points over the past week; Vicente Lupo is 9-29 over his last 9 games to raise his average up to .192; Luis Guillorme has hit his first rough patch of the season, going 9-42 over his last 10 games; Patrick Biondi has a 5-game hitting streak, with 4 multi-hit games during the stretch (10-22 overall).

Post-game recap: Scarlyn Reyes sprinted through his start against Greenville Friday night, and he was nearly unhittable over 7 innings, leading the Sand Gnats back above .500 for the first time in weeks. The Gnats provided all of the run support they’d need in the 1st behind 3 singles: Johnson led off, went to 2B on a sac, to 3B on a single from Becerra, and scored on Leroux’s first hit of the game. The next two Gnats runs came on solo blasts: Tomas Nido with one out in the 4th, Wuilmer Becerra leading off the 6th (Becerra is now tied for 3rd in the SAL in both homeruns and doubles). Eudor Garcia would score the fourth run of the game on a sac fly in the 6th, and that was more than enough insurance for this one. On the mound, Reyes worked around a base runner in each of the first three innings, but then retired 11 straight before Greenville would put the first two on in the 7th. Ben Griset took over in the 8th, and he’d walk the first batter to face him before retiring the final 6 Drive batters of the game.

Minors MVP of the Day – Joint award going to Cheech and Chongforto of the Binghamton Mets, who provided more than half of the hits in Binghamton Friday night.

Minors Cy of the Day – Scarlyn Reyes had his best outing of the year, throwing 7 sparking innings against a tough Greenville lineup.
