Post-game recap: John Gant continued to overwhelm the Florida State League Monday night, turning in his best performance yet, and one of the top performances at any level of the system this season. He retired 19 of the first 20 Tampa batters in the game, and then worked around 2 singles in the 7th (with a strikeout after each single allowed), and a leadoff walk in the 8th. Unfortunately, the Mets offense had nothing going against Gabriel Encinas and then Evan Rutckyj, picking up just 6 of their own hits over the first 11 innings. In the 12th, Dom Smith sparked the only rally of the game with a single lined softly into RF. Jairo would bunt him over to 2B, and then the next two reached on an intentional walk and a single to load the bases. Colton Plaia’s followed with his only hit of the game, an RBI single into CF to bring home Smith. Cruzado would score on a passed ball, but the next two PSL Mets batters went down swinging to end the threat. Smoker came in for the save, and sandwiched a two out walk with two strikeouts.

Post-game recap: Before the Sand Gnats got to their regularly scheduled game, they finished up Sunday’s suspended game with a loss. In the scheduled game, Corey Oswalt had the type of start that would make him a no-doubt winner for Cy of the day 90+% of the time, but that was merely third best in the system Monday night. He’s had a strong season by some measures – like his 3.13 FIP entering the start – but he’s allowed too many hits, especially for a league that is generally light on offense. He allowed at least one base runner in each inning, but the Sand Gnats turned a double play behind him in both the 2nd and 3rd innings. The Gnats scored all three of their runs on three doubles and an RBI single from John Mora in the 2nd. Duff came on to finish the game in the 7th, but he’d allow a run on a double, single, and then E5 with one out, before bouncing back to retire the final two of the shortened game.

Post-game recap: This game had a lot of wild elements to it, but the Cyclones would walk away with an easy win, their seventh in ten games. They jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st, but realistically should have scored more than that, as 6 of the 7 Cyclones batters to come to the plate in the inning would reach: Kaupe was thrown out trying to advance to 3B on a single to RF, Thompson hit a sac fly, Diehl was caught trying to steal 3B (for some reason). They wasted two outs at 3B, and Kaupe is too fast to need to make the first out there. Auburn got 2 runs back on 2 walks and a single/E7 in the bottom of the 1st, but Blackham did strike out 3 in the frame. He spent most of the start in the strike zone, but did something to lose the zone during those 4 PA that ended in a walk – 21 pitches, 5 strikes during those 4 PA, which means he threw 69% strikes outside of those PA’s. Bernal led a huge attack from the offense with the 3 hardest parts of a cycle – double, triple homerun, and he had a walk – but he lined out in the top of the 7th, and left the game in the bottom of the 7th. Diehl doubled and scored on a groundout for a run in the 4th. Bernal’s 2 run blast started the scoring in the 5th, and the Cyclones would score 3 more runs in the frame. After retiring 12 of 13 between the 1st and 5th innings, Blackham got wild with two outs and a runner on 2B in the 5th, walking two straight and allowing a 2 run double before Bumgardner replaced him. From there, the Cyclones bats added two more runs after Bernal and Thompson hit consecutive triples in the 6th, and the bullpen kept Auburn off the scoreboard. Brandon Brosher made his Brooklyn debut as a pinch hitter in this game, striking out in the 9th – this appears to be Gamboa’s way of introducing these guys to the lineup, so expect him to start tomorrow.

Erik Manoah (0-1, 12.46 ERA) @ Josh Graham (1-0, 0.00 ERA)
@Danville (3-3) at 7:00 PM

Bullpen:
Yoryi Nuez (W, 1-0, 0.00 ERA) – 3.1 IP, 3 H, 5 BB, 3 SO, 2 GO: 3 FO
Taylor Henry (S, 1, 0.00 ERA) – 0.2 IP, 2 FO, 2 IR – 2 S

Post-game recap: The K-Mets never give up attitude helped them come back for a win over Danville Monday night, as they made up for an early 5-0 hole that Erik Manoah left them in. Manoah would allow a base runner in each of the first 3 innings, with Danville coming through for 2 in the 2nd and 3 in the 3rd. It was a triple from Ray-Patrick Didder that started the 2nd inning rally, and a triple from Didder that capped their 3rd inning rally. The K-Mets rally started with two outs in the 6th, when Carpio reached on a single to LF. The next 3 would pick up hits – Dash RBI double (to RF), Mazeika RBI single, Ramos RBI double – but Ramos was thrown out trying to advance to 3B on the double. It was the same part of this talented lineup that led to the next 3 runs in the 8th, with another Carpio single sparking the run of 4 straight hits. Dash followed with another RBI double (this time to CF), and then scored on an RBI double from Mazeika, who came home when Ramos lined a single into RF. Nuez took over for Manoah in the 6th, and he wasn’t very sharp, but he was good enough to keep things scoreless until he handed the game over to Taylor Henry with one out and two on in the 9th. Henry would retired both Danville batters to face him in his pro debut, inducing a fly out to RF and a fly out to CF.

Post-game recap: Blake Taylor made his 2015 debut, which means he’s healthy and should be headed for Brooklyn soon, and that’s great news. Starter Joel Huertas was the Mets 16th round pick from 2014 out of Puerto Rico, and he’s a 19-year old lefty who threw 6 excellent innings Monday afternoon. Huertas retired the first 9 before a double broke his streak, and then would allow only a walk in the 5th and an infield single in the 6th. The Mets jumped out to a 1-0 lead with 2 two out hits in the 2nd: Bautista doubled and then Maracaro singled him home. Aybar led off the 3rd with a single, moved to 3B on Cespedes’s first hit of the game, and then scored on a sac fly from Dale Burdick. They’d add a run in the 5th on a two out single/E1 from Dale Burdick followed by three bad throws by the pitcher, one for an error on the grounder, and then two wild pitches that brought him around to score. Maracaro led off the 7th with a single, and then score on Aybar’s first RBI hit of the year. Taylor allowed a leadoff single in the 7th, and then the runner came home on a throwing error from Maracaro. Medina singled home Sanchez in the 8th after another Cardinals wild pitch. Jake Simon made his pro debut in the 8th, working around a leadoff single and walk, while picking up two strikeouts in the frame. The Mets piled on for 3 more runs in the 9th, with Cespedes and Sanchez providing the RBI singles.

Minors MVP of the Day – Michael Bernal is off to a great start for the Cyclones this year, and he finished a single shy of the cycle - has to be the least commonly missed hit from the cycle.
Minors Cy of the Day – John Gant was the best of the best on a night full of great starts from Mets prospects. I look forward to his return to the Binghamton rotation, which could easily happen in July.
