Recap

In an exhibition game that featured the top first-half talent remaining in the Florida State League (some guys were promoted), the South All-Stars (which included the host St. Lucie Mets players) came out on top behind some top-notch pitching and a pair of rallies. Both managers would empty their benches and bullpens during the game, so there really wasn’t much of a flow to it, but it was exciting to see so many young and promising talents take the field together. Before the game started, Miguel Andujar was an unlikely winner in the HR derby.
Check out some highlights from this game below.

Offense Highlights

Willy Adames lined a single into LF with two outs in the bottom of the 1st.

Ben Verlander lined a one out single into LF in the top of the 2nd.

Austin Dean led off the bottom of the 2nd with a double lined into LF.

Yefri Perez started the 3rd inning rally with a single back up the middle. With runners on the corners and two outs in the frame, Jake Bauers doubled home both runs.

Brian Anderson led off the bottom of the 4th with a single.

Jeff McNeil sparked the 5th inning rally with a leadoff single into LF. Alex Swim followed with a single of his own, and then they both scored on a triple from JaCoby Jones. Reese McGuire would single Jones home in his first AB of the night, steal 2B, and then score on a Luke Voit RBI single into LF.

Dominic Ficociello lined a single into RF leading off the top of the 6th.

McNeil picked up his second hit of the game leading off the bottom of the 6th.

Miguel Andujar and Sebastian Elizalde picked up singles for the North in the 8th, but they’d be stranded on the corners.

Pitcher Coverage

Jacob Faria started his night with a pair of strikeouts.

Chih-Wei Hu allowed a single during his frame, but struck out Alex Blandino to end the 2nd.

Kevin Ziomek struck out Luke Voit to end his scoreless inning.

Luis Alberto Niebla had a rough inning, but he struck out Jake Bauers before being replaced.

Alberto Tirado was throwing high 90’s bullets, and dropping in low 80’s breaking balls, but needs some work on his command. He’d strikeout Marty Gantt to end the 5th.

Buddy Borden struck out Angelo Mora before being replaced.

Tyler Bremer came in for Borden and struck out Sebastian Elizalde.

Ulises Joaquin struck out both batters he faced: JaCoby Jones and Jake Bauers.

Mike Hepple came in for the 7th and struck out Clint Coulter.

Preston Gainey struck out two of the 3 batters he faced, both players for St. Lucie: Colton Plaia and Maikis De La Cruz.

Miguel Del Pozo added another K to Mora’s total in the 8th.

Wil Browning was the last North pitcher to go, and he struck out both batters he faced: Gantt and McNeil.

Brad Schreiber came in for the final two outs, ending the game with a strikeout of Mike Ford.
