Tucker Blair gave a couple of Mets prospect eyewitness accounts for BP from his trip to see the B-Mets in Bowie: Cecchini and Aderlin. Neither report is good (not surprising for Aderlin), but remember that these reports are based on one look, in this case a 2-10 from Cecchini and a 1-9 from Aderlin over 2 games.

Pre-game notes: Kirk Nieuwenhuis has a ridiculous 1.517 OPS over his first 40 PA with Las Vegas – Anthony Recker is at only .825 OPS through 32 PA; Jayce Boyd was activated off the temporary inactive list yesterday, so he could be back in the lineup tonight; Travis Taijeron has 3 doubles and a homerun in his last 5 games played, and a 1.130 OPS over his last 45 PA despite 14 K during that span; Alex Castellanos has a 7-game hitting streak going, and a hit in 16 of his last 19 games, including 11 doubles and 2 homeruns, for a 1.057 OPS, and he’s played 1B/3B/LF/CF/RF during that span; Darin Gorski’s performances have been on the extremes this year – he’s either really effective or really not.

Pre-game notes: Michael
Conforto has just 104 PA in AA but he already has 9 doubles, 2 triples and 2
homeruns, with 22 SO: 16 BB; he made a throw home 3 times in a 4 batter span
during the 1st inning yesterday, beating the runner twice, and
getting an OF assist to end the inning with the second throw; the B-Mets got a
homerun from both 30-year olds in their lineup yesterday; Brandon Nimmo’s hitting
streak was snapped during an 0-2 yesterday, but he did draw 2 walks; tonight’s
starter Ynoa has allowed only 3 R over his last 2 starts (13.2 IP) thanks to a
.475 OPS allowed, but he has only 2 strikeouts during that span, and a 5%
swinging strike rate.

Post-game recap: For
Casey Meisner, it may have been a new league, and a new jersey, but it’s the
same game, and he got the same great results for St. Lucie. He was really
impressive, taking a shutout into the 7th on 2 hits, and attacking
the zone with a very strong fastball/changeup approach, mixing in his curveball
when he was ahead. Per the radio, his fastball sat from 88-94 MPH, his changeup
was low-80’s/high-70’s, and his curveball ranged from the low-to-high 70’s.
Some poor Tampa defense led to the Mets first run in the 2nd:
Rosario singled, went to 2B on a wild pitch, and then scored on a throwing
error by Abiatal Avelino. Daniel Murphy doubled home a run in the 3rd
to put St. Lucie ahead 2-0. Champ Stuart had to leave the game during his at
bat in the 4th after fouling a pitch off his left foot area –
sounded like instep, radio wasn’t sure if foot, ankle, or leg. He was clearly
in a lot of pain, but would eventually walk off, so hopefully it’s just a big
bruise. With Maikis De La Cruz likely still unavailable after taking a HBP to
the hand area Friday, Jeff McNeil went to CF for the third time in his pro
career. It’ll be interesting to see if the Mets are now forced to make a move
to help the St. Lucie outfield: Patrick Biondi would’ve been an easy org. guy
to fill the spot short-term, but he’s on the DL; John Mora has been hot lately,
so he could be a more permanent move; Yeixon Ruiz has played CF plenty, and
Wuilmer Becerra could be promoted and take over RF; since Jeff McNeil still
hasn’t been promoted to Binghamton, see how he does playing CF everyday for a
week+. Plaia led off the 7th with a single, and then 3 of the next 4
batters singled to bring him home. Smith came up with the bases loaded and only
one out in the frame, but then popped out to the pitcher. A leadoff walk from
Meisner came back to burn him for the only St. Lucie run of the game, as the
speedy Dustin Fowler went to 3B on a single, and then scored on a groundout.
Josh Smoker took over for Meisner in the 8th, and he retired all 6
batters to face him, with a dominant fastball/splitter combo – he’s mid-90’s
from the left side with the fastball, and low-to-mid 80’s with the splitter. He
started the 9th with two strikeouts swinging over his split, and
then induced a groundout to Rosario to end the game.
Pre-game notes: St. Lucie radio announcer Adam MacDonald reported that Casey Meisner will make his FSL debut tonight; Meisner’s first half with Savannah: 7-2, 76 IP, 2.13 ERA, 3.65 FIP, 21.0 K%: 6.3 BB%, 0.71 HR/9; stretching back to last July 29th with Brooklyn, Meisner has a 1.93 ERA/3.09 FIP, with a 23.4 K%: 5.6 BB5 over his last 18 starts; currently, Jeff McNeil is the only player on the roster with an .800+ OPS, but Dominic Smith has hit his was up to a .305/.346/.431 slash, so he’s closing in
Savannah Sand Gnats 39-33
Pedro Fernandez (4-0,
3.04 ERA) @ Scarlyn Reyes (7-4, 3.05 ERA)
vs. Lexington (33-39)
at 6:05 PM
Today: PPD (Rain)
Pre-game notes: Luis Guillorme walked in all 4 PA yesterday, not getting a strike thrown to him until the 8th inning; Martires Arias had 13 K’s yesterday (on 25 swinging strike!) but the Gnats still lost; John Mora’s next triple will be his 10th of the season – he’s leading the SAL with 9, which is the third highest total in the minors; Vicente Lupo has a homerun in two straight games, and has a .911 OPS in 52 PA during the month of June; tonight’s starter Scarlyn Reyes has 2 Pitcher of the Week awards in June, but I don’t think he’ll be able to top what Arias did yesterday.
Gregory Soto (0-1,
13.50 ERA) @ Michael Gibbons (1-0, 3.18 ERA)
vs. Connecticut (2-6)
at 6:00 PM
Yesterday: W
4-1 (1495Sports)
Game notes
Today: PPD (Rain)
Pre-game notes: Michael
Katz (2014, 9th round pick) hit his first pro homerun last night;
the Cyclones have committed at least one error in every game thus far, but
Alfredo Reyes (4) and Vinny Siena (2) are the only players with multiple errors
so far; Jeffrey Diehl has been off to a hot start (7-18, 2 2B, 3B, HR) this
year, and Manager Tom Gamboa said his mechanics have calmed down some, and that
he’s staying back well this year; Gamboa also said that Michael Bernal has been
taking much better at bats so far this year; David Thompson’s first pro hit was
an RBI single; aside from Siena batting 2nd, and Thompson batting 4th
or 5th, Gamboa doesn’t have any set lineup positions for these guys
just yet; tonight’s starter Michael Gibbons looks like an arm to watch; the Cyclones will be getting a new catcher tomorrow, per Brandon Brosher's
twitter.

Post-game recap: A
tightly fought pitcher’s duel turned into a wild game late, as both teams
scored 4 runs during a wild 9th inning, with the K-Mets coming out
on top to send the crowd home on a high note – it’s showmanship, always go out
on a high note. It sounds like starter Darwin Ramos was able to carve through
the Bluefield lineup by staying in the strike zone with middling
stuff, but that’s a great start regardless – this is a perfect example of
why at the lower the level, the stats are less important than having accurate
reports on stuff and how a player is producing those stats. The K-Mets finally
broke the scoreless tie in this game during the bottom of the 7th
inning, scoring a run on 3 singles and an E4. Mazekia led off with a single hit
back up the middle, but would be replaced on the base paths after a Ramos force
out. Kacz reached on the fielding error, and then Berrios (the RBI hit) and
Valencia followed with singles to load the bases with one out. They’d settle
for just the one run, but took that 1-0 lead into the 9th. Haggard
was third in the line of four relief pitchers from the 2015 draft to make their
pro debut tonight, and he was the only one to allow a run (although he didn’t
allow a hit, only Shaw allowed a hit). After starting his night with a
strikeout, Haggard walked 4 of the next 5 batters to blow the save and leave
the bases loaded for Shaw. The first batter Shaw faced cleared the bases with a
double to give the Jays a solid 4-1 lead. But the K-Mets weren’t ready to give
up, and they’d have 5 straight reach in the bottom of the 9th,
capped by a bases clearing walk off triple from Raphael Ramirez to deep CF.
Thanks for this awesome video Em Black! Great shot of the walk off win and the celebration!
Posted by Kingsport Mets: Fan Dugout on Saturday, June 27, 2015
Pre-game notes: Raphael
Ramirez and Milton Ramos are off to sizzling starts, both hitting .400+ (OPS
1.000+) through 4 games, with Ramirez leading off and Ramos batting 5th
so far; Dash Winningham has 2 doubles and a homerun over the first 4 games; the
K-Mets had to use 3 position players on the mound in relief yesterday because
manager Luis Rivera forgot to add the relief pitchers to the lineup card.
