Recap
The
last time Dillon Gee pitched in AAA, the Mets affiliate was the Buffalo Bisons
of the International League, so Thursday night marked his debut for the Las
Vegas 51s, and in the PCL. After a strong start, and with a ridiculous offense
behind him, Dillon Gee found out why the PCL can be such a high-scoring
environment in the 4th, allowing 6 runs on 6 hits, including 2
doubles and 2 homeruns. This 51s lineup is stacked right now, with everyone
capable of providing average-to-significantly better than average PCL
production, so the opposition will have little room for error. Cody Satterwhite
was fantastic again in relief, allowing a pair of two out singles that led to a
run in the 7th (Alfredo Marte took 2B on defensive indifference),
but nothing else. With the game out of hand, and the 51s pen in need of some
rest, Dan Rohlfing worked the 9th, allowing 3 base runners for a
run, but only one hit.
Dillon
Gee came out looking very sharp the first time through the order – striking out
the side in the 1st, sandwiching a strikeout with two groundouts
induced in the 2nd, and then working around a leadoff single in the
3rd – but the Bees did all of their damage against him during his
second time facing the lineup in the 4th. He’d bounce back with a
scoreless 5th, although he did allow a leadoff double to Ryan
Jackson, which is exactly how the 4th inning started.
The
51s travel home for 4 against the River Cats this weekend, with Matt Bowman
scheduled to pitch against Jake Peavy in the opener.
Scoring Highlights
(Too much offense to cover it all)
The
51s scored 4 runs in the 1st, with Kirk Nieuwenhuis’s first homerun
giving them a 3-0 lead before an out was recorded. Travis Taijeron would walk
with the bases loaded to force home the next run.
They
put this game to bed with 6 runs in the 2nd, even though they only
recorded 3 hits in the frame – they also drew 3 walks and were hit by a pitch
twice. Alex Castellanos, Taijeron, and T.J. Rivera provided the RBI singles in
the inning.
The
51s extended their lead with 6 more runs in the 7th, on 7 hits,
including a double (from Anthony Recker) and a homerun (from Taijeron). Danny
Muno led off with a single, and after the next two batters were retired on
groundouts, 7 straight would reach.
Brandon
Allen doubled home a run in the 8th, and then Recker followed with
an RBI single.
Kirk
Nieuwenhuis added his second homerun of the game in the 9th to cap
off an unreal performance from the Las Vegas offense.
