Post-game recap: The PSL Mets got another very good start from Kevin McGowan, but their offense couldn’t get anything going, and then McGowan was left in a few batters too long, which led to a big 7th inning for Tampa as they pulled away. With one out in the 1st, McGowan walked two straight and then threw a wild pitch, so Tampa was able to trade a run for a groundout to score the ‘game winning’ run. The Mets had messed up their best opportunity of the day in the 1st, as the first 2 reached, but the inning last just 3 batters even though there was no double play being turned in the frame. Ruiz led off with a walk, but was erased when the batted ball from Jeff McNeil hit him – McNeil was credited with a single. With rehabbing Daniel Murphy batting and only in the game for the first 5 innings, McNeil took off to try and get in scoring position for him, but was caught stealing 2B. After that, the only Mets highlights from this game were on the defensive end, where Rosario made several nice plays, Dominic Smith made a nice diving play and several nice picks (“he’s a machine out there,” says Adam Mac), Stefan Sabol robbed a homerun in LF, and Lednier Ricardo threw someone trying to steal 2B out from his knees. The only bad defensive play came from Daniel Murphy, who looked uncomfortable on a grounder hit his way, backing up on it before booting it for an error. McGowan would retire 2 of 4 batters in the 7th, but left with 0 runs in and Abiatal Avelino due up. All Star Mike Hepple has been very good for St. Lucie this year, but he was not very good today, allowing a walk, 2R double, 2R single, single before getting a fly out to LF that ended the frame. Tampa added a run against Hepple in the 8th, when David Roseboom had to come in and bail him out.

Post-game recap: Mother Nature was rooting for the Cyclones Saturday evening, allowing them to finish 5 innings with a lead before cutting this game short. Starter Michael Gibbons has been drawing some attention after 2 very impressive starts that came out of nowhere to begin his pro career, but he struggled with his command in this one. He worked his way into and out of trouble in the first 2 innings, but the Doubleday’s would get to him for at least one run in the final 3 innings of the game. Fortunately the Cyclones bats were awake early too, and they’d jump out to a 4-0 lead with a big 3rd inning. Kaupe reached on an error with one out, and then scored on a double from Siena – Vinny went to 3B on the play. After Bernal went down swinging, Thompson would reach on an infield single to knock in the second run of the frame. Thomspon advanced to 2B on a wild pitch and then scored on a single from Katz that was grounded through the right side. Diehl doubled Katz home to make it a 4-0 lead. Gibbons would allow the leadoff batter to reach in the each, but the first 3 reach in the 3rd to load the bases. All 3 runners would come home on 2 two out singles, and they might have had more, but Diehl threw Jakson Reetz out trying to advance to 2B after his RBI single. Gibbons allowed a homerun to the first batter in the 4th, which made it a 4-4 game for the time being. Brooklyn would jump back on top in the 5th when Michael Katz hit a homerun for the second straight game. Katz knocked in Bernal, who had drawn his fourth walk in 8 games to keep the inning alive. Gibbons allowed a leadoff double and two out single in the bottom of the 5th, pulling Auburn to within 1 run, but kept the Cyclones ahead long enough for Mother Nature to come do her thing.

Post-game recap: K-Mets ace Harol Gonzalez flirted with perfection Sunday afternoon, but the Bluefield bats came alive in the 9th, and then the Jays won it in the 10th. Harol has been very good for 2 starts now, and apparently is a small guy with an interesting arm. As you can see from the pitch count by inning, he cruised through this start, retiring 24 in a row before the first two reached in the 9th – single into LF, HBP. He struck out 2 in the 1st, 3rd, and 6th innings, and finish with 9 total. The K-Mets built a 4-0 lead in the middle innings. Dash hit a one out single in the 4th, and then scored on the first of two straight doubles from Kacz and Rojas. Carpio hit a one out single in the 5th, stole 2B, and then scored on a single from Dash. Feliz replaced Horal with 2 on in the 9th and things did not go well for him, with 7 of 9 batters before Chase Ingram replaced him and struck out Matt Morgan to end the frame. Suddenly trailing 7-4, the K-Mets would not give up, rallying for 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th on a walk, 2 singles, a balk, and a passed ball. After falling behind by a run in the 10th, Kacz would reach with a one out single, but then the game ended on a 6-4-3 double play.

GCL Mets 1-4

Yesterday: L 4-1
Today: Off

Minors MVP of the Day – After 0 homeruns in his first 47 games as a pro, Michael Katz has a homerun in 2 straight games for Brooklyn - glad to see that he's finally healed.
Minors Cy of the DayLuis Cessa was great for Binghamton, but Harol Gonzalez was slightly better for Kingsport - can't wait to hear some reports on this kid
