Pre-game notes: The
Las Vegas 51s are riding a 10-game losing streak as they return home for El
Paso – they didn’t win once during their 9-game road trip; Las Vegas has
basically erased the entire divisional lead built from their 14-game win
streak; Las Vegas has a 2.5 game lead over 2nd place El Paso in the
Pacific Southern division, so this is a good chance to build that lead back up;
Matt Reynolds has a 5-game hitting streak going; Tyler Pill has struggled at
home this year, with a 12.21 ERA and 1.172 OPS allowed in his 4 Cashman Field
starts.

Pre-game notes: Michael
Conforto has reached in all 6 games with Binghamton, including a 5-game hitting
streak, including the hit that gave Binghamton a walkoff Friday night; Gavin
Cecchini snapped his 6-game multi hit streak Thursday night, but he made up for
it with 4 hits Friday night, and was the winning run; Cecchini is 19-33 with 4
doubles over his last 8 games (.576/.600/.719), and has yet to go hitless in
consecutive games this year; Brock Peterson picked up a grand slam in his first
game with the Mets organization; Robert Gsellman is making his second start for
Binghamton; L.J. Mazzilli was promoted after Friday’s games.
St. Lucie Mets 28-27
Logan Taylor (1-3,

at 5:35 PM

Josh Smoker (2.70 ERA) – 2 H, 2 R, HR, 1 GO: 2 FO
Pre-game notes: St.
Lucie has been rolling lately and should still have some rehabbing major
leaguers at the top of their lineup; Logan Taylor is coming off his best start
of the year, when he was dominant over 7 shutout innings; Yeixon Ruiz had a
nice visit in Binghamton, but he was predictably demoted for Mazzilli after
Friday night’s game; Ruiz was involved in a collision during the 9th,
and it appeared that his arm was in pain, although he’d stay in the game; after
his 16-game hit streak was snapped, Dominic Smith got right back to being a
doubles machine with his 19th of the year in the 9th
Friday night; Smith leads the FSL with 19 doubles, and Amed Rosario is tied for
second; Jeff McNeil has a nice big lead in average among FSL players – he’s at
.344, second best is at .327.
Post-game recap: St.
Lucie and Palm Beach played a close game through 6, with the Cardinals leading
3-1 when the Mets bullpen took over, but two of the more reliable lefties in
St. Lucie’s pen had poor performances, and the game got out of control. The
rehabbing Mets put St. Lucie up 1-0 in the 1st, with Dilson Herrera
hitting a ground-rule double to LF, and Travis d’Arnaud singling him in. Palm
Beach struck back for two in the 2nd when Logan Taylor threw away
the potential third out of the frame after the Mets failed to complete a double
play. The Mets would have a few more chances to score, with the Evans extra
base hits providing the best opportunities, but would finish just 1-7 with
runners in scoring position.
Savannah Sand Gnats 28-27
Jeffry Fernandez
(1-5, 5.14 ERA) @ Corey Oswalt (3-2, 4.78 ERA)
vs. Greenville
(31-24) at 6:05 PM

SO, 2 GO: 2 FO
Darwin Frias (6.92 ERA) – 1.1 IP, BB, SO, 2 FO
Darwin Frias (6.92 ERA) – 1.1 IP, BB, SO, 2 FO
Pre-game notes: The
Gnats will look to start separating from .500 behind Corey Oswalt Saturday
night, who is coming off his worst start of the year; Wuilmer Becerra, the
throw-in from the R.A. Dickey trade, has been extremely hot since May 22nd,
going 21-55 with 6 doubles, a triple, and 3 homers (13 K: 3 BB), which is good
for a .382/.424/.691 slash #PROMOAT; Tomas Nido added his fourth bomb of the
year Friday, and he’s up to 11 XBH in 140 AB after just 8 in 188 AB with
Brooklyn last year; Luis Guillorme is only 9 for his last 40, but his single
Friday knocked him back over .300 average.
Post-game recap: The
Sand Gnats got some huge performances from the top-3 Mets position prospects
with the club, and some great relief from the short lefty Paul Paez, as they
beat Greenville for the third straight time, winning their fifth in a row
overall. The Drive used some small ball action to score a run in the 1st,
sandwiching a sac bunt between two singles to take a 1-0 lead. Savannah had
their first big outburst in the 3rd, scoring four runs on two
doubles that were hit 5 batters apart. Mora led off with a double and scored on
a throwing error by the shortstop. The next two batters walked to load the
bases, and Becerra would clear them with a double to LF. The Drive would charge
back ahead with 4 of their own in the top of the 5th, loading the
bases with no outs on three straight singles to start the frame. They’d score
their first run on an E6, as Guillorme made a rare fielding error, and then tie
it up on a Rafael Devers single. Manager Jose Leger chose to bring in Paul Paez
to finish the frame, but he’d allow an RBI infield single to Jordan Procyshen
straight out of the pen. Fortunately, something weird must’ve happened on the
play, as Rafael Devers was thrown out at home to end the frame. Greenville’s
lead didn’t last long, as the first four Gnats of the 5th reached on
his, including three doubles: Johnson doubled, Guillorme singled him to 3B,
Becerra doubled Guillorme to 3B, and Eudor doubled them in. Mora’s second hit
of the game brought home Eudor to give Savannah an 8-5 lead. Eudor would add a
two-run triple with two outs in the 6th as a final touch, giving
Savannah a comfortable 5-run lead that would hold up.
Minors MVP of the Day
– Eudor Garcia finished a homerun shy of the cycle, knocking in 4 runs for
Savannah.
Minors Cy of the Day
– Tyler Pill had his best home start of the year, finally ending the 51s losing
streak at 10 games.
