Recap

The 51s couldn’t overcome a wild Darin Gorski Saturday night, as the offense came up short of 10 hits, which has not been common this year. Gorski put the 51s in a 2-0 hole early, and then couldn’t keep the Grizzlies from adding on after both innings during which Las Vegas scored. The 51s bullpen did a solid job behind Gorski, as they were only charged with the unearned run, but the bats couldn’t really get anything going.
It didn’t take long for the Grizzlies to jump ahead in this one, as their 3-hole hitter Matt Duff launched a 2R blast with one out in the 1st. Gorski always walks a fine line, but when his control is good, he can shutdown a lineup for 5-6 innings. So when he retired 9 of the next 10 batters, it looked like this might be one of those starts, and then Castellanos cut the Fresno lead in half with a solo blast in the 4th. It would not take the Grizzlies long to get that run back, however, as the third hitter in the bottom of the 4th picked up a sac fly. Gorski would walk two batters in the frame, and a two out single from Tony Kemp added the second Fresno run. Gorski retired the first batter in the 5th, but then allowed a walk, single, and double before Wally Backman replaced him with Cody Satterwhite. Satterwhite would allow an inherited runner to score, but then retired the next 4 in a row. Jon Velasquez would bail Scott Rice out of a tough situation in the 7th, but he couldn’t work around a fielding error by Jayce Boyd in the 8th.
This series wraps up Sunday night at 9:05 PM, with Rainy Lara scheduled to pitch for Las Vegas.

Scoring Highlights

Alex Castellanos and Anthony Recker hit solo blasts in consecutive innings for the 51s runs.

Jayce Boyd legged out a hustle double in the 3rd.
