Recap

Matt Bowman was effective at not allowing any damage over 6 innings for Las Vegas Saturday night, and the offense exploded for 10 runs, as this became a laugher by the end. Bowman may have held Reno scoreless over 6 innings, but he recorded 0 strikeouts, and only 1 swinging strike during the start, which is a poor recipe for success. Wilfredo Tovar continued his rampage at the top of the 51s batting order, and 5 other players had multiple hit games too, including 5 doubles and 2 blasts, and that is always a good recipe for success. The 51s bullpen was not at its best, especially when it came to bailing each other out, but a 5-run outburst in the 7th gave them more than enough padding to work with.
After reaching base 5 times on Friday night, Tovar followed up by reach 4 times Saturday, starting his night with a single in the 1st. He’d steal 2B and score on a double from Monell. Conrad followed with an RBI single to RF, and Las Vegas quickly had a 2-0 lead.
Bowman did not have an easy go of it, but his reliable sinker was still getting the results he needs for success. He walked two straight with two outs in the 1st to load the bases for Peter O’Brien, but Bowman would induce the third groundout of the inning to end the threat. Worth would reach with a leadoff single grounded into CF in the 2nd, but then Bowman retired the next 3 straight, including two on lineouts to LF. Dorn would leadoff with a single in the 3rd, but Bowman stranded him at 2B thanks to 2 groundouts and a popout on the infield. He had to work around another single from Worth in the 4th, but he again got groundballs to escape the inning. A one-out single in the 5th was erased by a double play groundout from Nick Evans. After a one-out single in the 6th, Bowman induced a grounder to Reynolds, but they could get one out. Worth followed with his third single off of Bowman (on a grounder to Tovar), but he got another groundout to end his night.
Tovar led off the 5th with a double, and then scored on a bomb from Brooks Conrad. After the Aces broke through for a run in the top of the 7th, Las Vegas scored 5 in the bottom half. Tovar sparked this rally too, leading things off with a walk. After Reynolds singled, Monell connected with his second RBI double of the game, bringing home two. Brandon Allen added another pair with a 2R blast to RF, a no-doubter. After a pitching change, the offense just kept rolling, and Taijeron joined the hit parade with a double to LF. He’d score on Rivera’s third hit of the game. in the 8th, Allen nearly added another bomb, but had to settle for an RBI double off the wall.

This series wraps up Sunday afternoon at 3 PM, and Logan Verrett has a chance to give the 51s a 4-game sweep over Reno.
