Post-game recap: Robert Whalen was great early, but then wild once given a lead, as Tampa came back to win this game, this series, and the season series with St. Lucie. Neither side could get any offense going over the first 5 innings of this game, but then both ‘erupted’ for 2 runs in the 6th. Evans, Ricardo, and Ruiz hit consecutive singles leading off the 6th for St. Lucie, and then Ricardo scored on a sac fly from Perez. After throwing 67% strikes entering the 6th inning, Whalen would throw only 37% strikes over his final inning-plus of work. The first 2 reached against Whalen in the frame on a walk and single, and then a run came home on a passed ball. After Whalen recorded the first out of the inning, Bichette doubled home the tying run. Secrest had to bail Whalen out after he walked the leadoff batter in the 7th, but he had a very strong inning, striking out the final two. Unfortunately Tampa would get to Secrest for a run in the 8th, as they were able to bring home Mike Ford after he led off with a double.

Post-game recap: The Sand Gnats received basically 0 offense, and Ricky Knapp had his worst outing of the season for Savannah, in a game that was never really close. The Green Jackets scored a run in the 1st and 2nd innings, and then 3 in the 3rd. Knapp was replaced by Villasmil after 4 IP, and Eddy immediately allowed a solo blast and a single, but then retired the next 12 Augusta batters in a row before Griffin took over.

Post-game recap: After an hour-long rain delay, the Cyclones wasted an early 2-0 lead in Auburn, as they just couldn’t get anything going after the 1st inning. Siena got that 1st inning rally started with a one out single, and then scored on Thompson’s double to LF. Katz followed the double with a walk to load the bases, but they could only add one more run on a less than routine sac fly/8-3-5 double play. The Doubledays got a run back in the 1st on a walk-double-RBI single, and then tied it in the 2nd on a walk-stolen base-RBI single, but then Canelon settled down. It looks likes Celas has been moved to a piggyback role for now, as the Cyclones are likely trying to make room for Blake Taylor in the rotation. He came in and allowed the game-winning runner to score before recording an out, as Auburn picked up back-to-back singles, and Zabala committed a fielding error in CF on the second one that let a run score. The Cyclones only base runners after that came on a walk and a HBP, so it’s not like they had any real chances to tie this game up.

Audry German (1-0, 10.13 ERA) @ Ryan Lawlor (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
@Danville (3-4) at 7:00 PM

C – Dionis Rodriguez – 0-2, BB
Bullpen:
Joe Shaw (S, 1, 0.00 ERA) – 2 IP, 2 H, 2 SO, 3 GO

Post-game recap: After a string of crazy games over the past week, the K-Mets were involved in a tightly battled pitcher’s duel Tuesday night in Danville, and they still came out on top. 22-year old Audry German was great over 7 shutout innings for Kingsport, allowing only the 5 singles during the game. The only run in the game came when Kevin Kaczmarski hit his first pro homerun with two outs in the 6th. Joe Shaw replaced German in the 8th and worked around a single in each inning to pick up his first pro save in his second career outing.

GCL Mets 2-4

Jake Woodford @ Jeff Walters (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
vs. GCL Cardinals (2-5) at 12:00 PM
Yesterday: W 8-1
Today: W 7-6, Walters (4.91 ERA) – 1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, BB, 2 GO
Lineup
CF – Ricardo Cespedes – 0-5, SO, 2 GIDP
LF – Luis Crisostomo – 3-5, R, SO
C – Ali Sanchez – 3-4, 2 R, RBI (3), HBP
RF – Jose Medina – 1-4, 2 R, 2B (1), RBI (2), BB
1B – Jose Maria – 0-5
2B – Franklin Correa – 1-4, 2B (1), 2 RBI (2), BB, SO, GIDP
DH – Walter Rasquin – 2-3, BB, SB (1)
3B – Alvin Maracaro – 0-2
3B (sub) – Dale Burdick – 1-2, 2B (2)
SS – Cecilio Aybar – 1-3, R, BB, SO
Bullpen:
Adonis Uceta (1.80 ERA) – 5 IP, 2 H, R, 8 SO, HR, 7 GO
Andrew Church (9.00 ERA) – 1 IP, 3 H, R, BB, HR, 2 GO
Sixto Torres (H, 1, 0.00 ERA) – 1 IP, 2 H, 1 GO
Gabriel Llanes (BS, 1)(W, 1-0, 13.50 ERA) – 1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, SO

Post-game recap: The GCL Mets got some nice performance Tuesday afternoon, and came back multiple times for the win. Jeff Walters allowed the first 4 Cardinals batters to reach on a walk and 3 singles, but then finished with 2 grounders induced for the 3 outs. 21-year old Adonis Uceta had a great 2015 debut, nearly matching his 2014 GCL strikeout total in one appearance. His only flaw was a solo homerun allowed with one out in the 6th. The Mets got a run back on 3 singles in the 3rd, including an RBI hit from Ali Sanchez. Then they tied it up with a run on an RBI double from Medina in the 5th. Andrew Church made his 2015 debut in the 7th and was greeted with a solo homerun. Things weren’t exactly clean after that, but he was able to navigate an E6, a walk, and a single in the frame. The Mets jumped ahead with 3 in the 7th, capped by a 2-run double from Franklin Correa. Things got crazy in the 9th, as the Cardinals jumped ahead with 2 runs on 4 singles against Llanes in the top of the 9th. But the GCL Mets would not be kept down, and Ali Sanchez sparked a game-winning rally with his third hit leading off the frame. After a throwing error put Mets on 2B and 3B with 0 outs, the Cardinals intentionally walked Correa to load the bases, but then unintentionally walked Moscote to bring home the winning run.

Minors MVP of the Day – Michael Conforto had 3 hits, including a big 2R HR during the B-Mets 5th inning rally to pull ahead, which gave him the edge of Eudy Pina’s big day.

Minors Cy of the Day – It may just be rookie ball, but Audry German gave Kingsport 7 great shutout innings on a night when few other starters stood out like that.
