Recap

Dillon Gee settled in to give the 51s a solid start in their finale with Fresno Thursday night, and Las Vegas would earn a win to split the season series with one of the top teams in the PCL – these two teams are now tied for the second best record in the league. The 51s would bust out for 9 runs over the middle innings thanks to 3 big flies, and then the Las Vegas pen shut down the Grizz over the final 3+ innings.
The Grizzlies touched Gee for 2 runs on 3 doubles in the 1st inning, capped by a massive shot from Matt Duffy that bounced mid-way up the CF wall, which is 433 feet from home plate at Cashman Field. Then Gee got nasty, striking out 5 of the next 7 batters over the 2nd and 3rd innings. With one out in the 4th, Duffy got a hold of another Gee fastball, and this time he knocked it over the wall (hard to tell from the MiLBtv angle, but the announcers thought the double was hit further).
Las Vegas jumped ahead thanks to a big 4th inning, scoring 4 runs on 5 hits in the frame. Johnny Monell launched a two run homerun to put the 51s on the board, and then Cory Vaughn launched a two run homerun to give the 51s the lead – they’d also get doubles from Brooks Conrad and Dan Rohlfing in the inning.
Frenso would come right back and tie it in the 5th inning on a leadoff double from Max Stassi, who would then come around to score on a throwing error from Dilson Herrera. Dilson made up for it by leading off the bottom of the 5th inning with a double. Monell would knock Dilson in with a single into CF, and then came around to score on a blast from Brandon Allen.
Dan Rohlfing’s second sparked the games final rally in the 6th. Wilfredo Tovar followed with a single and stolen base, his 25th of the season, which is 8 more than his previous career high (from 2009!). Dilson and Monell would pick up RBI singles later in the inning, giving the 51s a comfortable 9-4 lead.
Las Vegas heads to Reno for their next series against the Aces, with Logan Verrett (3-1, 2.93 ERA) scheduled to pitch for the 51s.
