Recap
The
Binghamton Mets continued their dominance in Portland Sunday afternoon,
shutting out the Sea Dogs for their 9th straight win at Hadlock
Field. Seth Lugo started for the B-Mets, and while he lost the plate with his
fastball at times, he kept the Portland batters off balance with a nice mix of
his full repertoire. Aderlin Rodriguez provided Binghamton with all of the
offense they would need on the first pitch of the 2nd inning,
launching a blast that would nearly hit his face on the video board in CF. The
B-Mets pen continued their recent dominance in relief of Lugo, with 4 pitchers
working a scoreless inning each, including what might’ve been the best AA
performance from Akeel Morris to date.
Seth
Lugo came started strong, retiring the first 4 batters in quick order before a
funny hop led to a double, and a very long 2nd inning. Oscar Tejeda
hit a low grounder to Gavin Cecchini’s right that Cecchini appeared to have
lined up, but then the ball took a wicked hop, coming up on Cecchini and
deflecting off of his chest and towards the LF line. Both walks from Lugo would
come after the double, which loaded the bases for Portland with two outs. But
Lugo would get ahead of Cole Sturgeon 1-2, and then he dropped in a bugs bunny
curve that buckled Sturgeon’s knees. The Sea Dogs would lead off the 3rd
inning with a double on a hit that was blooped over Cecchini’s head, and then
rolled to the wall. With two on in the frame, Lugo escaped the jam with another
strikeout, finishing off Oscar Tejeda with a 76 MPH curveball.
This
series wraps up Monday afternoon at noon, with Gabriel Ynoa scheduled to pitch
for Binghamton in their last start before the All-Star break.
Scoring Highlights
Aderlin
Rodriguez put the B-Mets on the board in the 2nd with a leadoff
homerun to CF.
After
Gavin Cecchini and L.J. Mazzilli led off the 3rd inning with walks,
Josh Rodriguez singled Cecchini home, and a wild pitch brought Mazzilli home.
L.J.
Mazzilli added a pair of singles in this game: leading off the 5th
inning, and then with one out in the 7th inning.
Bonus Defense
Gavin
Cecchini didn’t get many chances, but he made all of them with no problems,
including this one in the 3rd inning.
L.J.
Mazzilli took command during this foul pop out down the 1B line.
