Recap
The
B-Mets impressed on many levels Tuesday night, and Michael Conforto didn’t even
have a hit in the game. They’d jump ahead 3-0 in the 1st and never
look back, but some individual performances were great. Starter Gabriel Ynoa
had another great start, making that 7 straight, and he’s lowered his ERA from
5.72 after his start on June 10th to 3.70 now. L.J. Mazzilli and
Gavin Cecchini each made an amazing play in the field while picking up a single
and double. Brandon Nimmo smashed a triple to the wall, and then drove another
ball to the RF wall for a long out. And then, after Ynoa dominated for 7
innings, the B-Mets bullpen stepped it up a notch, retiring all 6 batters
they’d face on strikeouts.
As
mentioned, Ynoa has seen his ERA improve dramatically over the past 6 weeks,
but he still wasn’t been missing bats too often during the stretch. Tonight was
just the second time he reached a double-digit swinging strike total this
season, but it’s his third start with 9+ in his last 5 outings, so that’s
progress. He’s inducing a lot of contact early in the AB, which has allowed him
to go deeper into starts, but meant that he hasn’t needed to go to the out
pitch as often. He only faced real danger in two innings, the 3rd and
6th innings. Joey Wong led off with a single grounded back up the
middle in the 3rd inning, and then came around to score on a pair of
groundouts, and a single to RF from David Dahl. The Rock Cats loaded the bases with
two outs against Ynoa in the 6th inning, but he induced a groundout
to end the frame.
This
series wraps up Wednesday afternoon at 12:05 PM, with Michael Fulmer (4-2, 2.16
ERA) scheduled to pitch for the B-Mets.
L.J.
Mazzilli sparked the 1st inning rally that set the pace for the game
with a one out double to LF. After Michael Conforto popped out, Brock Peterson
singled Mazzilli home. Brandon Nimmo followed with an RBI triple into the right
center field gap, and then scored on an E6. The bottom GIF is Nimmo's fly out to the wall.
Benson
led off the 4th with a single to LF, and he’d come around to score
on a two out double from Gavin Cecchini. Mazzilli followed with a single to LF,
but Cecchini had to hold up at 3B.
Albert
Cordero would add a one out double in the 6th.
Bonus Defense
L.J.
Mazzilli made an amazing diving catch on a liner to his right.
Gavin
Cecchini made another highlight play in front of all the local scouts.
