Recap
Michael
Fulmer’s emergence
as the Mets next
top-pitching prospect continued Tuesday night against the Rock Cats, a team
he has thoroughly owned this season. For the B-Mets, it was their 10th
shutout of the season, and it extends the ridiculous
stretch of pitching from the Binghamton staff that started June 11th.
New Britain starter Ryan Arrowood matched zeros with Fulmer over the first 5
innings, shutting the B-Mets down after they missed a golden opportunity to
break this game open in the 1st inning (see below for full scoring
details and GIF highlights). Arrowood would yield to Gus Schlosser in the 6th,
and Binghamton would immediately jump ahead on a Joe Benson RBI double in the
inning. The Mets would add another pair of runs in the 8th, not that
the B-Mets pen needed the insurance runs, as they’ve been just as good (if not
better) than the Binghamton starters since June 11th. Jeff Walters,
who has the B-Mets record of 38 saves in a season, continued his rehab from TJS
with a perfect 7th, and then the pair of B-Mets closers each worked
around a hit over the final two frames.
Fulmer
has been absolutely dominant over his past 9 starts, allowing just 4 ER (9 R
total) over 53.1 IP for a 0.68 ERA, with only 39 hits allowed during that span,
and a 61 K: 9 BB ratio (29.8 K%: 4.4 BB%). He faced just two over the minimum
in this start, but was held under 90 pitches for the seventh time in his last ten
starts. Despite the low pitch total, he’s thrown into the 6th in 7
of those starts, and had one of those starts cut short at 46 pitches through 4
shutout innings, so he’s still giving the B-Mets solid length most starts. He allowed
a pair of singles to the 8 and 9 hitters the first time through the order, but
then went off for 7 K’s the second time through.
Check out the scoring highlights and
more from this start on Fulmer below. This series continues Wednesday night at
6:35 PM, with Robert Gsellman (4-5, 3.47 ERA) scheduled to pitch for the B-Mets
Gavin
Cecchini picked up a single for the B-Mets in the 1st inning, but
they’d fail to score in the frame despite loading the bases with one out.
Travis
d’Arnaud led off the 6th with a single into CF, and then came around
to score on a two out double from Joe Benson.
Benson
sparked the 8th inning rally with a one out single. After L.J.
Mazzilli walked, Jonathan Galvez doubled over the centerfielders head to knock
both runners in.
