Recap
The
Michael Gibbons affiliate tour made its next, and likely final, stop of 2015,
pitching for the Savannah Sand Gnats in Lexington during game two of their
double-header. Gibbons was solid in his first SAL start, and will probably
stick with Savannah moving forward since Martires Arias has been promoted to
St. Lucie. The Sand Gnats offense went extremely quiet in this game, managing
only 3 hits in support of Gibbons, and the shutout left them with a split in
the double-header.
If
you haven’t heard, here’s the story on Gibbons: he was signed by the Mets in
2014 as an undrafted
free agent, really impressed Tom Gamboa during XST, which earned him a spot
start for St. Lucie to start his season, pitched two good starts for Brooklyn,
made a spot start for the B-Mets,
and now appears to be sticking with the Sand Gnats (for now) – what a wild year
for Mike. He displayed good control of his low 90’s fastball as worked on the
corners throughout the start, which is often all a pitcher needs at the SAL
level, but the Legends were able to square up the few pitches he left over the
middle - check out the pitch log below for more details from his outing.
The
Sand Gnats offense never got anything going, with John Mora breaking up the
no-hitter bid in the 5th inning, but the offense limited to just 3
singles. The series continues Friday night at 7:05 PM, with Corey Oswalt
scheduled to pitch for Savannah.
Scoring Highlights
The
Sand Gnats scored no runs in the nightcap, but they did put up 3 hits:
John Mora and J.C. Rodriguez hit back-to-back singles in the
5th.
Tyler Moore added a single in the 6th.
