Recap
The
Las Vegas 51s got another big night at the plate from Dilson Herrera Sunday in
Albuquerque, but Rockies stud Jon Gray shut down the rest of the lineup over
his 5 innings, and the Isotopes bullpen followed suit over the final 4. 51s
starter Logan Verrett was pretty solid, but 3 of the 4 hits he allowed went for
doubles, and the Isotopes built a 3-1 lead with him on the mound. Albuquerque
would add on against the 51s bullpen, and Las Vegas finished their post
All-Star road trip with two straight losses.
Dilson
led off the game with a triple into the right center field gap that rolled to
the wall, but Jon Grey stepped it up and struck out the next 3 batters. Gray
was in control throughout his 5 innings, and the Isotopes announcer kept
talking like this would be his last AAA start – see below for his 7 strikeouts.
After Verrett set down the first 3 in order, the Isotopes would pick up 4 hits
and a walk from their next 8 batters. Kyle Parker and Angelys Nina doubled in
the 2nd inning, and Jeremy Barfield followed Nina with an RBI
single. In the 3rd, Tim Wheeler led off with a walk, and then Trevor
Story doubled him home to give the ‘Topes a 3-1 lead.
Parker
added an RBI double against Bradford in the 6th inning, and then
Roger Bernadina tacked on a three run homerun for Albuquerque in the 8th.
Las Vegas had cut the lead to 2-1 when Dilson scored in the 3rd, but
they’d hardly threaten after that – check out the scoring highlights below.
The
51s head home Monday night to start a series with Fresno, and Luis Cessa is
scheduled to make the 10:05 PM start.
Scoring Highlights
Dilson
Herrera led off the game with a triple, but Jon Gray would strand him there by
retiring the next three 51s batters on strikeouts.
Dilson
led off the 3rd inning with a single to RF, and then came around to
score on an RBI groundout from Brandon Allen.
Jayce
Boyd and Herrera would hit back-to-back singles with two outs in the 7th,
but the 51s couldn’t get either in.

Jon Gray
Since
there are rumors swirling that this might have been top prospect Jon Gray’s
last start in the PCL, I present to you his 7 strikeouts.
