Recap
The
Cyclones salvaged a win from their 3-game series with Staten Island Friday
night behind some strong pitching and a Jeff Diehl blast. Mets 3B prospect
David Thompson would reach and score in both the 2nd and 4th
innings, and then the newest Brooklyn player Hengelbert Rojas doubled and
scored in the 5th, which gave the Cyclones a 4-0 lead. Kevin Canelon
came out firing strikes for the Cyclones, needing just 43 pitches through the
first 4 innings, but then the Yankees started smacking him around in the 5th,
and he had to be removed one out shy of qualifying for the win. Criag Missigman
came into the 4-3 game with 2 runners on base, but induced a groundout from
Jhalan Jackson to escape the jam. Missigman would work another scoreless frame
in the 6th, and then Corey Taylor, P.J. Conlon, and Alex Palsha
combined to keep Staten Island scoreless over the final 3 frames.
Looking
ahead, the Cyclones head home to face Vermont Saturday evening at 6:00 PM, with
Tyler Badamo scheduled to pitch in the opener for Brooklyn.
Scoring Highlights
David
Thompson led off the 2nd inning with a single through the right
side, stole 2B, went to 3B on a single to RF from Zach Mathieu, and then scored
as Mathieu was being thrown out at 2B.
After
Thompson walked in the 4th, Jeff Diehl followed with 2R blast to CF.
Hengelbert
Rojas picked up his first NYPL hit with a double to LF leading off the 5th.
Manuel Hilario followed with an RBI single to give Brooklyn a 4-0 lead.
Bonus Defense
Vinny
Siena committed an error in this game, and looked awkward on a couple of other
plays.
Alfredo
Reyes and David Thompson each made a play on the run during this game.
