Recap
The
B-Mets finished a season sweep of the Sea Dogs in Portland Monday afternoon,
and they now have a 12-game winning streak at Hadlock Field, as well as a
5-game winning streak heading into the All-Star break. Binghamton starter
Gabriel Ynoa battled through a long 1st inning Monday afternoon,
needing 27 pitches to wade through 6 Portland batters, but he limited the
damage to 1 run on 3 singles in the frame, and then did some serious work
through the 7th inning. The B-Mets jumped out on top by putting
crooked numbers on the board during the 2nd and 5th
innings, with both rally’s driven by doubles (see below for scoring details and
GIF highlights). A pair of lefties would finish things off for Binghamton, with
Adam Kolarek allowing an unearned run in the 8th before Josh Smoker
blew the Sea Dogs batters away in the 9th on 95+ MPH heat.
Gabriel
Ynoa quickly found himself in trouble during this start, allowing singles to
the first two batters of the game, and then unleashing a wild pitch that put
them both in scoring position. He’d induce two pop outs and two groundballs
from the next four batters, but Portland took a 1-0 lead on a seeing-eye
infield single to the SS hole. After the RBI single in the 1st, Ynoa
would retire the next 18 Sea Dogs batters in a row, needing just 52 pitches
between the 2nd and 6th innings. He worked ahead in the
count all night, throwing a first-pitch strike to 18 straight batters at one
point, and extended his streak of 0 walks to 4 starts (32 IP or 116 batters
faced).
The
Eastern League starts their All-Star break Tuesday, with the game scheduled for
7:00 PM in Portland on Wednesday. The B-Mets will be back in action Thursday at
6:35 PM, as they start a 4-game set against “rival” Trenton.
Scoring Highlights
Aderlin
Rodriguez and Dustin Lawley got the B-Mets on the board with back-to-back
doubles off the mini-monster in the 2nd inning after Augliera hit
Brock Peterson with a pitch to start the inning. Xorge Carrillo followed Lawley
with an RBI single, but he’d be picked off at 2B to end the frame.
After
Gilbert Gomez and Gavin Cecchini led off the 5th with back-to-back
walks, Mazzilli doubled them home for a 5-1 B-Mets lead. Aderlin would add an
RBI single with two outs in the frame.
Cecchini
led off the 7th with a double and came around to score on an RBI
single from Brock.
Bonus Defense
Eudy
Pina was playing really deep throughout the game Monday, but that just allowed
for him to make an awesome diving catch on what might’ve otherwise been a
routine fly ball.
L.J.
Mazzilli made an error in the game, but he’s mostly been pretty smooth at 2B,
as you can see below.
