Recap
The
51s winning streak finally came to an end at 8 games Saturday night, as Las
Vegas couldn’t hold onto a lead handed to them in 3 straight innings, and the
Isotopes eventually walked off with a win on an E1. It was a fitting end for
the 51s in this game, as it was their fourth error of the game, the second of
the inning, and the second from a 51s pitcher (Dillon Gee also committed an
error before the Isotopes tied it up in the 7th).
T.J. Rivera had a big night at the
plate, but his 6th inning error came back to bite Gee, who would
allow a two run single with two outs in the frame.
Scott Rice took over for Gee with
one on and one out in the 7th, and Rafael Ynoa lined his first pitch
to Rivera, which started a double play.
Zack Thornton took over in the 8th
inning and struck out the heart of the Isotopes order, but everything went
wrong behind him in the 9th. After a leadoff single, Roger Bernadina
reached on a sac bunt when the umpire (incorrectly) ruled that Dilson Herrera
had pulled his foot off the bag. Dilson was livid with the umpire’s call, and
he’d be quickly tossed from the game despite the efforts of his teammates to
restrain him.
By the time that little delay was
over, it had begun to rain (almost sideways, per the announcer), and the Isotopes
had 2 on with 0 outs against Thornton. After allowing a single that loaded the
bases for Albuquerque, he would induce two weak grounders on the infield, but
the 51s only got one out from them, as Thornton booted a grounder to his right.
Scoring Highlights
Dilson
Herrera led off the 3rd inning with his 15th PCL double
of the season, but he’d be stranded there.
T.J.
Rivera launched a solo blast with two outs in the 5th inning for the
games first run.
With
runners on the corners and nobody out in the 6th, Cory Vaughn
singled home Zach Lutz to put the 51s back on top 2-1 – Travis Taijeron would
score on a sac bunt from Dillon Gee in the frame.
Rivera
led off the 7th with a single, and then came around to score when
Brandon Allen grounded into a double play with runners on the corners.
