Post-game recap: Cyclones
ace Tyler Badamo spun another excellent performance for Brooklyn Monday night, allowing
only an unearned run in the 7th inning against a team that came into
this series with a 13-1 record. Brooklyn’s bats were quiet in this one, so that
unearned run had tied the game, but the Cyclones bullpen kept things scoreless
(again), allowing the good guys to walk off with a win in the 10th.
This game would remain scoreless until the 6th, when Brooklyn broke
through thanks to a throwing error from the Crosscutters third baseman – Reyes
had led off with a single, and then stole 2B before the error. After being
handed a lead for the first time in the game, Badamo allowed a one out triple
in the 7th. The next batter would reach on an E6, but the run did
not come home on that play, so he had a chance to keep the shutout intact. Unfortunately,
the next batter would bring home the run with a sac fly to tie it. After the
bullpen did their job, the Cyclones would manufacture the winning run in the 10th
without a hit. Michael Bernal, who has been dealing with ‘leg issues’ recently,
was used as a pinch-hitter to start the frame, and he’d draw a leadoff walk
before leaving for a pinch runner. After a sac bunt put the runner in scoring
position, the game ended on a throwing error from the pitcher.

Post-game recap: The
K-Mets overcame another rough start from Connor Buchmann thanks largely to the
huge effort from Nabil Crismatt. Considering the Mets stretched him out, and
how good he’s been for Kingsport so far, I wouldn’t be surprised if Crismatt
was moved into the starters role moving forward. Buchmann allowed a leadoff
walk, but that runner would be thrown out trying to score on a groundout for
the second out of the inning. But then things went haywire for Connor, as he
allowed an RBI double, and walked 3 straight for a second Astros run. Crismatt
came into the bases loaded situation and struck out Marlon Avea to end the
frame. He retired the first 8 Greeneville batters to face him (struck out the
side in the 3rd) before Hector Roa hit a solo blast in the 4th.
A leadoff single in the 5th would also come around to score against
Crismatt, giving the Astros a 4-0 lead. But, after being held scoreless for the
first 5 innings, the K-Mets would come to life against Greeneville’s pen in the
6th. Ramirez led off with a single and then stole 2B, but the real
damage came with two outs. Mazeika would single home Ramirez for the first of 3
straight two out hits, and Arnaldo Berrios eventually came around in the frame
on a wild pitch. Dash Winningham tied the game in the 8th when he
hit a solo blast to RF, which makes 4 homeruns in 49 AB’s with Kingsport so far
this year. After Chase Ingram was perfect over his 2 innings of relief, Witt
Haggard followed suit with a perfect 9th. Then this game went into
Appy-league mode, as the K-Mets would get a walkoff win in the bottom of the 9th
thanks to two errors: one from the shortstop, one from the second baseman.

Post-game recap: The
string of potentially interesting Mets prospects working their way through the
GCL continued Monday afternoon, as the Mets activated Luis Mateo, and he threw
a scoreless inning in his 2015 debut. Mateo looked like a very promising
prospect when he dominated the NYPL with Brooklyn in 2012, but he needed Tommy
John surgery mid-way through the 2013 season, and his 2014 comeback attempt was
abandoned after only 10 innings. The Mets fell behind big early, and never
really got anything going in this game. Uceta allowed 2 runs in the 2nd,
4 runs in the 3rd, and then put the team behind 7-0 with another run
allowed in the 4th – he allowed 10 hits, including two doubles and a
triple, over those 3 innings. Red-hot Ali Sanchez (who I identified as a sleeper
prospect pre-season) led off the 4th with a single into LF, and
scored on an RBI single from another red-hot batter, Kenneth Bautista, who was the
Mets 2015
23rd round pick. In the 6th, former infielder Anthony
Chavez began his career as a pitcher – here’s
a homerun he hit for Brooklyn in 2013.
DSL Mets Bonus
Juan Uriarte posted his homerun from today.
Minors MVP of the Day
– Eudor Garcia’s big day at the plate was not enough to overcome some poor
Savannah pitching Monday night, but he has 4 hits, including a double and two
homeruns, over the past two days.
Minors Cy of the Day
– The Kingsport Mets probably wouldn’t have won without the efforts from Nabil
Crismatt Monday, but Tyler Badamo was even better, and he lasted longer in his
start for Brooklyn.
