Recap

The Sand Gnats kept things close in this game despite nearly no offense, but the Drive’s offense proved too much for Savannah’s pitching, and Greenville would come back to win and earn a series split. The most recent game notes posted online had Martires Arias listed as the starter for this game, but Eddy Villasmil ended up making the start instead, and he couldn’t replicate the success from his most recent long-relief appearance. Savannah was no-hit until the 5th, but they’d tie the game with 4 runs on 1 hit in the 5th, and jumped ahead with another run in the 6th. Unfortunately, after 2.1 strong innings in relief Villasmil, Alberto Baldonado gave the lead right back in the bottom of the 6th, and the Drive would add an insurance run against Cameron Griffin in the 7th. ‘Rehabbing’ Tim Peterson made his second appearance of the season, working around a walk for a scoreless inning.
Check out details and highlights of the Sand Gnats scoring and the 9 combined strikeouts from Savannah pitching below. The Sand Gnats will continue to receive MiLB.tv coverage as they head to Lexington Wednesday night, with Scarlyn Reyes scheduled to pitch for Savannah in the 7:05 PM start.

Scoring Highlights

Luis Guillorme broke up the no-hitter with a single to LF after a pitching change in the 5th inning. The hit would load the bases for Michael Katz, who walked to bring home Savannah’s first run of the game. Eudor Garcia ripped the first pitch he saw back up the middle, but the Greenville pitcher got his glove on it, although the glove didn’t stay on his hand, and the ball rolled away. The pitcher recovered, located and picked up the ball, but then threw the ball over the catcher’s head as he went for a force out at home, which allowed two runs to score.

Patrick Biondi hit a one out triple in the 6th, and then Jonathon Johnson knocked him in to give Savannah the temporary lead.

Bonus Defense

As you can tell, it was hard to follow the action with some of the camera angles used, which made it not worth me including one of the top defensive plays of the night – Jonathan Johnson ranged up the middle to make a nice fielding play before popping up and making a quick throw to 1B. Here’s the toughest play that Luis Guillorme had to make during the game.
