Post-game recap: Casey
Meisner did not have his best stuff for St. Lucie Wednesday night, but he
battled through it to give St. Lucie a very strong effort. Meisner would allow
11 base runners over his 6+ innings of work, with poor control sounding like
the main problem for him. He walked the first batter of the game, and Charlotte
would get the first run home on a double later in the inning. But St. Lucie
bounced right back thanks to the monster bat that Dominic Smith has been
carrying around for the past two months, as he launched a no-doubter of a
homerun out to LF for a 2-1 St. Lucie lead. Meisner would work around trouble
in the 2nd and 3rd innings, but then couldn’t keep the
tying run from scoring after a leadoff double in the 4th. Things
started to click for Meisner during the 5th and 6th innings,
but he would be removed after a single and walk allowed in the 7th inning.
Hepple and Regnault were great out of the Mets pen, as they have been most of
the season. They kept Charlotte off the board long enough for the Mets to get a
walk-off win in the 9th. McNeil led off the 9th with a
double, and then the Stone Crabs would intentionally walk Dominic Smith with
one out in the frame – is he going to get the Conforto treatment now? Fortunately,
Jairo Perez came through behind Smith, as you can see in the video clip posted
below.

Post-game recap: The
Cyclones extended their winning streak behind Gaby Almonte and a butt-load of
singles Wednesday night – all 10 of their hits went for singles. They jumped
out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st and never looked back. Tucker Tharp
drew a leadoff walk, went to 2B on a balk, and then scored on a missed catch
error from the Hudson Valley catcher after David Thompson picked up his first
of four hits in the game. Michael Bernal sparked a three-run 4th
inning rally with a lead off infield single, and then Thompson followed with
his second hit of the game. After a force out advanced Bernal to 3B, he’d score
on a throwing error from the Hudson Valley catcher. Mathieu would add an RBI
single later in the inning, and the Cyclones finished the frame ahead 4-0. The
Renegades got a run back on two hits in the bottom half of the 4th,
with Hector Montes scoring on a throwing error from Manuel Hilario after he
doubled with one out. Bernal, Thompson, and Zabala connected for a run on
consecutive singles in the 5th, but the inning ended when Zabala was
thrown out trying to advance to 2B on the play. Almonte left in the 6th
despite a low pitch count because the Renegades were charging back, as they
already had run in and a runner on 2B when Missigman took over. Missigman would
allow the inherited runner to score after the first batter reached on an E3. But
he wouldn’t let the error faze him, retiring 5 of the next 6 Hudson Valley batters
before Conlon took over for the 8th. Conlon and Palsha were perfect
over their 2 innings, continuing a strong run of success from Brooklyn
relievers this year.

Post-game recap: The
K-Mets were locked in a tight pitcher’s duel in their opener with Elizabethton
Wednesday night before jumping ahead with 3 runs in the 6th, and
breaking away with 4 more in the 8th. 17-year old Luis Carpio had
his second straight 3-hit game for the K-Mets, raising his batting average
above .300. Ace Harol Gonzalez had another impressive performance for
Kingsport, taking a one-hitter into the 6th inning, before allowing
a solo blast to end the shutout bid. The K-Mets jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the
3rd thanks to the speed of leadoff guy Raphael Ramirez, who led off
with a triple, and then scored on a passed ball – Ramirez is a guy to keep an
eye on within the org. After the Twins tied the game with that solo blast in
the 6th, Harol walked the next batter on four pitches, and then
allowed an RBI double to LaMonte Wade. He’d finish his outing strong after
that, retiring the final 5 Elizabethton batters to face him, with two
strikeouts along the way. The Twins lead wouldn’t last long, as the K-Mets
charged back ahead in the bottom of the 6th, although the rally was
nearly cut short by a double play. Berrios kept the inning alive with a two out
single, and then Kacz knocked an RBI single into RF to tie the game. Luis
Ortega would keep the carousel moving with another RBI single into RF, and then
an E4 allowed the third Mets run of the inning to come home. In the 8th,
7 straight K-Mets batters would reach for four runs: Kacz walked, Ortega
singled him to 3B, Dionis was HBP to load the bases, Canelon lined a two run single
to RF, Ramirez walked to load the bases, Carpio lined an RBI single to RF, and
then Winningham lined an RBI single to RF, with Ramirez thrown out at home on
the play. It sounds like Winningham had been robbed of a homerun earlier in the game.

Post-game recap: The
GCL Mets got swept in a Wednesday afternoon double-header with the GCL
Cardinals. Ivan Wilson played in his fifth game with the team and had 3 hits in
game one, including a pair of doubles. The 5-game total is significant because
that’s the number of games Brosher played with the GCL Mets before his
promotion to Brooklyn (and Brosher only went 1-13). 2015 28th
round draft pick Anthony Dimino had a hit in both games, putting on the
tools of ignorance for game two after DH’ing in game one. The Mets built a 5-0
lead in game one, but Sixto Torres would blow the lead in the 6th,
when he was unable to finish the game. Side-arming
reliever Alejandro Castro made another scoreless appearance in the 7th
inning of game one. Ronald Guedez was limited to 4 IP in his start, but he’d
leave with the game stuck in a 2-2 tie. ‘Rehabbing’ Johnny Magliozzi was the
first to relieve Guedez, and he failed to finish his inning of relief, allowing
3 runs on 4 singles and a triple.
Minors MVP of the Day
– I had a few good choices to choose from tonight, but I went with top prospect
Dominic Smith, who hit a no-doubter to LF, and smoked a double into RF.
Minors Cy of the Day
– Jacob deGrom always stands out, but Martires Arias’s start stood out on a night
filled with good starting pitching performances throughout the farm system.
